First steps tutorial

Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki ‒ it is really easy.

Getting help

More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (direct access). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing.

Goodies, tips and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your Graphics abilities.
  • All your uploads are stored in your personal Gallery
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~
  • Use the CommonSense tool to find good categories for your files (then other people can find them too!)
  • To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:Image:Foo.jpg]], which produces: Image:Foo.jpg
  • If you're copying files from another project, be sure to use the CommonsHelper

Dina bilder[edit]

Hej Daniel, Ser att du lagt upp lite bilder på svenska artister, Kul! Bra bilder är det också!

Skulle bara vilja ge dig lite tips:

Glöm inte att katagorisera bilderna, jag har försökt lite på dina bilder. Om du kollar på Image:Amy Diamond 1.JPG, så ser du att jag lagt till beskrivning på olika språk, kan vara bra att lägga till engelska så att användare som inte pratar svenska kan använda bilderna.

Om du vill ha med ditt eget namn, kan du skriva såhär: [[User:Danielåhskarlsson|Daniel Åhs Karlsson]] efter Author för då kommer denna texten att synas: Daniel Åhs Karlsson.

Och om du skulle vilja samla ihop alla dina bilder kan du skapa en kategori som t.ex. heter Category:Images by Daniel Åhs Karlsson Lycka till med ditt fortsatta fotograferande! Det behövs verkligen mer bra bilder på svenska artister! --Ghostrider 10:28, 27 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Åjo, lite mer än fotografera kan du säkert...
Jag tror inte att man kan ta bort kontot, det du kanske skulle kunna göra är att ersätta de bilder som du lagt upp med det andra kontot, så skulle det så småningom suddas ut. Vad mednar du med att jag har med mina bilder?

Om du kollar på Image:Amy Diamond 1.JPG, så kan du se att jag lagt till kategorin Category:Images by Daniel Åhs Karlsson, vilket innebär att bilderna med denna kategorin visa på kategorisidan. Skall man sedan he en text på bildens sida som jag har måste man skapa en mall, vilket är lite mer pyssel. Ghostrider 22:34, 27 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Skall göra mitt bästa för att förklara. Det enda som jag gjorde med bilden var att lägga till kategorin: Images by Daniel Åhs Karlsson, på bildens sida väljer du redigera och klistar in följande text:[[Category:Images by Daniel Åhs Karlsson]]. Ok, bra. Ja det kan jag göra, men tyvär fick ja inte någon super på bara dem, men kolla min hemsida http://www.danielkarlsson.eu där har ja lite fler bilder (håller på fortfarande) på Pierce. Men om ja klipper ut blir det som, Agnetha, "Frida" och som Amanda Seyfried foton på hemsidan (och här på wikipedia), så kvaliten sjunker ju väldigt mycket. MVH Daniel Åhs Karlsson

Hi Daniel, long time ago you asked, how to rename files at File:Lady GaGa.jpg - noone read it. Two ways: 1) you can reupload the image, just select a better filename and use the simple uploadform, copy the whole page content to the info box at the simple uploadform and it will go within a minute. 2) you can place {{rename|bettername.jpg}} on the filepage, a robot will do the reupload then for you after some admin confirmed the rename. --Martin H. Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

It goes without saying that CC-BY-licensed images can be used without any further permission from the photographer. Also, if you want a different attribution than "Photo: Daniel Åhs Karlsson", then you should provide this information in the image description. Kikket gjennom den kategorien og fikk lagt til et par bilder til, men ganske mange svenske artister er (enda) ikke omtalt på Wikipedia på norsk. Vandalism based on modified version of your photo[edit]

You may be interested in Commons:Deletion requests/File:ABBA 2008 Av Daniel Ahs.jpg which concerns File:ABBA 2008 Av Daniel Ahs.jpg, a vandal-modified version of your photo File:ABBA 2008 Av Daniel Åhs.jpg (which is not the subject of the nomination). Hey, Yann I always write that and will keep doing that, but maybe you have an better license for me to choose when I upload my pictures? The Swedish law say that you can't deny my requirement, but private person who use a picture for personal use don't have to do it, there is no crime for them if they don't use byline, but is a nice gesture to do and they don't know the law so they will write the name if it say you need to do so. Commercial "affairs" most do it, they have no choice and ALSO the license I have on them say some rights are reserve, it says "attribution - You must specify the author and / or licensor in the way they wish/want (but not in any way that they suggests that they endorse you or your use of the work)." Therefore I need to write something, how is it possible to know what I want otherwise?? I write "Usage allowed only with Byline" cause it is what the "some rights reserved" means. I don't upload my things as free resource, and will never do. I'm a photographer and if you going to use my pictures you will have to use my name near of the picture. I think I have used the right license and everything is corrected, otherwise give me a license that is working with what I just writed and for notice I have used the license like in 10 years..

The thing about that "upload Wizard" I never have tough about, will do from now on tough.

sommarkrysset 2017[edit]

Hello :) I'm sorry, but I have spent the last summers at Sommarkrysset and I really love it! But every time I go their it cost me around 100 euro and the Saturday for take photos and the Sunday to go over them, load them up etc. I'm blesses cause I loved it, but also all my equipment cost a lot of money, and atm I don’t have the money and time to do sommarkrysset. If it was a job I got pay to do, it would be different, but now all I do is for free and only cause it is fun. So I will focus on my work (money..lol) and have a summer off, even though it break me apart... Maybe there will be photos from some programs, but I have not spoken to Sommarkrysset about it and they have not asked me either, so this year my gues is no picture.
