Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~. To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg. You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account. There are several tools to upload files. Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful. Made a mistake? Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it. Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

Galleries

Hello, and welcome to Wikimedia Commons. I, too, am a railfan, although I came across your gallery while patrolling new galleries. The rules require that user galleries be in user space (files preceded by "User:", so I have moved it to your main user page, User:Dan Sellers. If you wish, it could be a gallery sub page of your user page, such as User:Dan Sellers/Gallery, but it cannot be in main space.

Thank you for providing images to Wikimedia Commons. Please keep in mind that images and other files on Commons must be under a free license and should be useful to the Wikimedia projects. To allow others to use your files, some additional information must be given on the description page. Most importantly:

• Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
• State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitly. If it is from another Wikimedia user, link to the person's local user page. Best to use CommonsHelper.
• If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
• Add a copyright tag - images without an appropriate license tag will be deleted.
• Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate categories, so it can be found by others. To find out where an image belongs, you can use CommonsSense.

If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki. Use CommonsHelper.

It is recommended to use Template:Information to put that information on the description page. Have a look at Template talk:Information for details of the use of this template.

You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file.

Please add as much information as possible. If there is not sufficient information, the file may have to be deleted. For more information, follow the Commons:First steps guide. If you need help or have questions, please ask at the Help desk.

Post boxes

I notice that you have uploaded several post box images but you only catgeorised them as "Post boxes" when we have individual country categories for post boxes including England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. In that case the parent categories should usually be empty unless an image really does not fit into the sub-category. I have recategorised a few I found but you might want to review your other uploads to ensure they are in the best category. Good luck. Ww2censor (talk) 13:35, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

Categories

Hi Dan, You don't need to go mad with the categories :),
If for instance you add the category "Plaxton Pointer (low floor Mk1) on Dennis Dart buses in the United Kingdom" then you don't need to add "Dennis buses in the United Kingdom, Dennis buses, plaxton Pointer buses, Plaxton buses" etc etc,
The other cats are basically if you're not sure what the vehicle is but you know it's a Plaxton bus or a Dennis dart,
It's the same with the year ones - If you have "Buses in the UK in 2011" then you don't need just "2011" etc,
Basically all of what I've removed here is what's not needed,
