Stop

Stop adding a speedy deletion tag to my files and read the damn licenses! They are not claimed as own work like you keep claiming. Fry1989 eh? 18:18, 26 October 2014 (UTC)

Oh. Whoops. I must have read something wrong. But, the images in question are easily found using Google Search. DLindsley (talk) 18:19, 26 October 2014 (UTC)
You can find anything on google, that doesn't make it a copyright violation. I add my authorship and copyright info after I upload the files because it is easier that way for me. Fry1989 eh? 18:21, 26 October 2014 (UTC)
Google Search may show Commons' URL as the URL that the image is from. But, however, if it is a different URL, I then can identify it as a copyright violation. It is that simple. DLindsley (talk) 18:23, 26 October 2014 (UTC)

Message from anonymous user

Hi! Thanks for taking a look at the DiLer logo file. This will be used in an article about the DiLer software. This file is the work of the brand owner who allowed its use for that purpose.

Replied on your talk page. DLindsley (My talk page) 00:57, 29 October 2014 (UTC)

Why have you marked this file for deletion?

1. I made the logo, and have all the rights to it. 2. I made it for Norsk Massasjeforening, who may use it in any way they like. 3. I am the founder and leader of Norsk Massasjeforening, and I decide everything there.

So, what business of yours is it to claim that this is a copyright violation?

Regards, Kjetil Prestesæter

I marked the file as a copyright violation because I found it using Google Search. Feel free to talk more about this with an administrator. INeverCry is one of them. DLindsley (My talk page) 01:42, 30 October 2014 (UTC)

Of course, you found it using Google Search! It's the logo of the actual organisation that the Wiki article is about. Are you completely incompetent?

If you're not an administrator, then why do you keep bothering people who write legitimate articles? Who do you think you are? Stop pestering! - The preceding unsigned comment was added by Kjetil Prestesæter.

I also noticed that you removed the {{Speedydelete}} tag from your file. Please do not do this in your next upload if I tag it. DLindsley (My talk page) 11:39, 30 October 2014 (UTC)
Of course I removed the tag. I have told you several times that the image is my property, and I can do what I like with it. You, on the other hand, have absolutely no right to sensor it, so stay away. I will keep the image there until your actions are stopped by an administrator, and I will keep demanding that you get blocked until your actions stop. You evidently have no idea about what you are doing. Kjetil Prestesæter (talk) 12:06, 30 October 2014 (UTC)
Removing speedy deletion tags can only be done by an administrator, which is a policy you clearly do not know. Also, do not revert the DR placed on your file. Though it was not placed by me, it still should not be reverted by your own self. DLindsley (My talk page) 21:18, 30 October 2014 (UTC)

Please do not edit war

Deutsch  English  français  italiano  magyar  português  sicilianu  русский  日本語  +/−

You currently appear to be participating in an edit war. Users are expected to collaborate with others, and once it is known that there is a disagreement should discuss the issues on the relevant talk page rather than repeatedly undoing other users’ contributions. If necessary you can ask for more input at Commons:Dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to ask for temporary page protection. If you continue to edit war, you may be blocked from editing – even if you are right about the content issue.

Question

Hello, I'm just letting you know that I'm not mad about the Animal Planet logo being up for deletion, but have a question. How are File:Animal Planet logo.svg, File:Animal Planet.png, and File:Animal Planet HD.svg not up for deletion? They are just the same as the one I've uploaded. That is the reason I uploaded it here, because other versions were on here. Corkythehornetfan (Talk) 04:36, 14 November 2014 (UTC)

See Corkythehornetfan. He is the one that left me the above message, questioning why some files were not up for deletion. DLindsley (My talk page) 03:20, 15 November 2014 (UTC)
Um, you seem to be falsely accusing me a little. Though I did do two bad speedy tags, I did no other bad tags. One of those bad tags is one I converted to DR. DLindsley (My talk page) 16:12, 15 November 2014 (UTC)

Template:Don't use profanity has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this template, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Autopatrol given

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. -- Rillke(q?) 12:02, 6 December 2014 (UTC)

Thanks. :) DLindsley Need something? 12:30, 6 December 2014 (UTC)

Hey DLindsley, thanks for spotting the issue there; however these comments are translation markers and they've no influence on the ordinal numbers of a list; concatenating two units is not easily possible and possibly not preferable in this case. The only thing that matters is that there are no empty lines between the hash tags (#) or bullet points (*) if it should be one list. Unfortunately, I've seen a lot of TAs not only destroying the output HTML semantically (unordered lists) but also causing issues like that. Again, thanks for spotting it and attempting to fix it :) -- Rillke(q?) 18:08, 13 December 2014 (UTC)

Welcome, Dear Patroller!

Counter Vandalism Unit

Hi DLindsley,

You now have the Patroller right and may call yourself a patroller! Please take a moment to read the updated Commons:Patrol to learn how Patrolling works and how we use it to fight vandalism.

As you know already, the patrolling functionality is enabled for all edits, not just for new-page creations. This enables us to keep track of, for example, edits made by anonymous users here on Commons.

We could use your help at the Counter Vandalism Unit. For example by patrolling an Anonymous-edits checklist and checking a day-part.

If you have any questions please leave a message on the CVU talkpage or ask for help on IRC in #wikimedia-commons.

I saw that you are combating vandalism. Adding you to the user groups of patrollers is an expression of the confidence I've in you despite your block on en.wikipedia (which I don't want to discuss). When in doubt, please ask me or someone else of your trust for help. At Commons, we usually say "Don't be bold" and discuss before doing anything because our actions often have implications on multiple projects. -- Rillke(q?) 23:23, 13 December 2014 (UTC)

Thanks. :) DLindsley Need something? 23:24, 13 December 2014 (UTC)

I thought that Pegida logo would be public domain as it is just simple text, no? The Almightey Drill (talk) 20:41, 28 December 2014 (UTC)

I'm sorry that you feel that way. You have taken a copyrighted image and cropped some text out of it. That means that you have reproduced a copyrighted work in a way. Please read COM:FU. DLindsley Need something? 20:46, 28 December 2014 (UTC)
I still believe PD-Text Logo applies here... Logos are sourced from many places, but the logo itself is non-cooyrightable. EoRdE6(Come Talk to Me!) 03:11, 4 January 2015 (UTC)
From what I know, and this felt counter-intuitive to what I learned when I was first told about it, it is possible to decompose a copyrighted work until something that does not pass the threshold of originality remains. I think this is what happened here. -- Rillke(q?) 03:58, 4 January 2015 (UTC)
If it helps, the COM:FU policy clearly says "Wikimedia Commons does not accept fair use media files (such as non-free logos, covers, screenshots, or reproductions of other copyrighted works) because fair use laws vary from country to country". Facebook is a copyrighted website, and I'm pretty sure that they wouldn't appreciate having their content stolen either. DLindsley Need something? 21:09, 4 January 2015 (UTC)
For every logo or artwork or parts of it, the threshold of originality (have a look at the linked page) will have to be evaluated individually. However, this is difficult, even for courts, that's why in COM:FU and other places, we advice not to copy from Facebook etc. -- Rillke(q?) 22:17, 4 January 2015 (UTC)
Well that means that the logo isn't suitable for the public domain then. DLindsley Need something? 00:42, 6 January 2015 (UTC)

Thank you --Q1q2q3qwertz (talk) 23:37, 6 January 2015 (UTC)
It's not that I want to delete them. The files are missing evidence of permission, which means that you must send permission for the images to OTRS. DLindsley Need something? 00:55, 7 January 2015 (UTC)

Strange edits

Hi. Now you made me curious. I've sometimes noticed rather strange edits from you. Nothing bad, mind you, just strange, and I wonder why these edits happen. If you use some tool to edit, maybe the tool is malfunctioning. Or if you do make these edits indeed on purpose, I'd really like to know why. I'm genuinely puzzled by edits such as this one, adding some HTML comment or this one, removing a blank line... Cheers, Lupo 21:38, 11 January 2015 (UTC)

I made them on purpose. I normally don't like seeing blank spaces between deletion requests on the deletion log. As for the AN one, I didn't know why the HTML instruction was removed. DLindsley Need something? 22:21, 11 January 2015 (UTC)
Ah, okay. Glad to see it's not some tool problem. Just got to wonder because there are probably thousands of DRs that have this empty line. As for the HTML instruction: it was not removed; you added it ;-) Lupo 05:34, 12 January 2015 (UTC)

Greetings. I am actually Jeffrey Mhaghnuis (Jeffrey McManus) from Ptahil. I am new here & was adding some info on PTAHIL & feel it is cheesy to do it under my own name. I don't want to self promote but I wish there to be a presence on wiki for my band as we are distributed through Sony Music & MVD. I can provide what ever information you need to verify my identity. Richard Headley is an alias I use for a Video Show I started producing with my underground video production company. Thank you for your time. Regards, Jeffrey

@Richheadley: Hi there. Commons requires that files that we deem to have a questionable "own work" claim get permission. Ptahil Images.

Would it work for me to start an account using the ptahil email address & upload the images again?

@Richheadly: Accounts that are used by one user for bad purposes (you probably don't intend to do this) are not welcome. Also, re-uploading images after they were deleted is out of process and shouldn't be done. However, in case an image does get deleted, the best thing to do is request undeletion. I already mentioned to you about OTRS too. I believe that it is the only way that the images can stay here. DLindsley Need something? 18:24, 18 January 2015 (UTC)

Salut,

Je ai ajouté ce dessin animé les pages wiki, et comprendre que peut-être pas du goût de tout le monde. D'autre part, je ne pense pas qu'il devrait être bande comme il est synonyme de l'esprit de la liberté d'expression.

The ceiling fan is a background? Really? I don't think so. Permission for Nicholas McCarthy to use my photo, which may have been posted on Wikipedia before

HELLO DLINDSLEY,

I just created an account "arthurdix" onto which I uploaded my own photo "nicholas-mccarthy-underground" so my friend Nicholas McCarthy could use if for his own WIKIPEDIA page NICHOLAS MCCARTHY (director). As his SCRIPT SUPERVISOR for his film "THE PACT," I took a few candid shots of him, and gave them to him as a gift. They are still my shots, but he's free to use them for his own promotion.

And I believe he named this image "Director Nicholas McCarthy on the set of THE PACT.jpg." Image is the same, and he has permission by me.

I emailed in a permission document to WIKIPEDIA today so he use the image, in case my attempts to create my own account and upload image caused any delay. Below is the email I sent in today:

Apparently, you might have to send one to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org as well. I am not sure if the OTRS team requires the permissions for both projects, but I would check, just in case. DLindsley Need something? 22:22, 18 February 2015 (UTC)

Piture of Otto Peters

Hi DLindsley,

I went to images.google.com and i selected from the search tools i selected from usage rights labelled for reuse. I don't know if i did the correct thing. Maybe in saving it i didnt use the correct link. This is where i found them https://www.google.com/search?site=&tbm=isch&source=hp&biw=1366&bih=667&q=Dr.Otto+Peters&oq=Dr.Otto+Peters&gs_l=img.3...3646.9898.0.10282.14.12.0.0.0.0.1002.1431.4-1j7-1.2.0.msedr...0...1ac.1.62.img..12.2.1429.V8Hb1ccF8Nk#tbs=sur:fc&tbm=isch&q=Industrial+theory+Dr.Otto+Peters

I really need to find a picture as that is a part of the grade for the assignment.

Permission will have to be needed from OTRS. The copyright holder will need to send an email to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org, which is where the OTRS team will receive it, in order for the images to be uploaded here. Also, licenses are required for the images, which is why I tagged them as missing those. If it's for a project at school or whatever, then it probably shouldn't have to be displayed out to the public of Wikimedia Commons, unless your teacher wants to use it to look at them. You'll need to tell them (if that's the case) that here at Wikimedia Commons, licenses and OTRS permission are required for work that isn't your own.
