rename needs confirmation

Hi, could you explain a bit about this change: [1]? Why does the bot require confirmation and why did you revert its change? BTW, the template "Rename media" is a redirect to simple "Rename". --Wanted (talk) 10:45, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

A rename request will only be processed by the bot after it is approved by a approved user or admin. This is to prevent that a vandal can perform a rename without checking (Commons:MediaMoveBot#Conditions). I am one of the approved users. I tagged the file with {{Rename media}} to approve your rename request. -- Common Good (talk) 19:03, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

Rollback

Hey man, I've seen you reverting vandalism already, and I was just wondering if you'd be interested in getting the rollback tools. It's making the vandalism fighting a lot easier, as you just need to do it with one click instead of the several with the usual undo button. I know that fighting vandalism isn't your main area here, but I'd have the trust that you don't use the tools for revert-warring. Btw, I would like to thank you for cleaning up all those Potd templates. It's great stuff that you're doing. Let me know of your decision if you'd like to have rollback rights or not. Cheers, --The Evil IP address (talk) 17:41, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

That might be helpful. I would appreciate it if you grant me rollback permission.
BTW, can you please have a look at this? -- Common Good (talk) 19:27, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
✓ Done, I granted you the rollback rights. I'm gonna take a look at the link. --The Evil IP address (talk) 20:54, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
Thank you. -- Common Good (talk) 21:11, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

Time to rename?

You approved the rename of File:Keel-billed toucan .ogg 12 days ago. Is this delay normal? Thatcher(on enwiki) 00:03, 9 September 2009 (UTC)

A delay of 2 weeks is not unusual. BetacommandBot (talk · contribs) was last active 26 August 2009 and 13 August 2009. -- Common Good (talk) 19:14, 9 September 2009 (UTC)

Nederland banknotes

Hello, I've receaved a message about this pictures, that they are unlegal. I would like you explain me why. They are downloaded from the European Central Bank, and in the Copyright and Disclaimer says: "When such information is distributed or reproduced, it must appear accurately and the ECB must be cited as the source". In the description of the pic, the ECB is referenced. These banknotes (the original source) come from the Nederland Bank, and in it's disclaimer says the same. And to finish, the Dutch law for issuing money says that banknotes can be reproduced if they've have the text "SPECIMEN", and the banknotes have them. So, which is the problem? I wait for your answer, have a nice day--Manu (talk) 20:54, 23 September 2009 (UTC)

Here is the reason why I filed a deletion request:

Guilders are subject to copyright 70 years after the first publication. De Nederlandsche Bank has been contacted and they state that the introduction of the Euro does not change this.

(from Commons:Currency#The_Netherlands) -- Common Good (talk) 21:02, 23 September 2009 (UTC)
In that case, you should delete also these ones, OK?, thanks for the information:
  • File:Dutch 1 gulden front.JPG (60 years)
By the way, there's a revocation about what you say (Staatscourant 1982, 161), and it was revocated on 25th August 1995, so I don't see where's the problem [2] If you delete them is according with the section 25 of Copyright Act 1912. If you demonstrate the designer doesn't allow the publication of the banknotes I'll agree with you
Thanks for the link. I updated the deletion requests accordingly. Please leave any further comments regarding this issue there . -- Common Good (talk) 21:37, 23 September 2009 (UTC)
Hi again. What happens at least with the images of banknotes? Will they be deleted?. I say this for erase the "deletion quote" on the images or not. Thanks in advance, kind regards --Manu (talk) 07:32, 30 September 2009 (UTC)
Deleted ("The old dutch money is still copyrighted") by User:Abigor -- Common Good (talk) 19:09, 30 September 2009 (UTC)
Thank you for the information User:Abigor. I understand the copyright status, however, you should delete this file "File:Dutch 1 gulden front.JPG", because as in the case of my pictures, it hasn't pass 75 years since its first print. I think it's the fairest, isn't it? --Manu (talk) 20:52, 30 September 2009 (UTC)

OTRS

I have suggested to en:User:Gerd 72 that a ticket be initiated through our OTRS, to confidentially confirm his or her account that he or she worked in a job that provided opportunities to take photos of Albanian military equipment and installations. Personally, I find their account of themselves credible, and I think it is regretable that an experienced wikipedia contributor didn't suggest OTRS confirmation earlier. Geo Swan (talk) 15:26, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

A permission via OTRS would also allow us to ask for restoration at en.wp. Let's hope the best. -- Common Good (talk) 19:08, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

Renames to be done

Hi. I left a comment at Commons_talk:File_renaming#File_rename_permission you might want to read. Until non-admins can move you could make a list of ok images to move (or two: one with unused files and one with used).

Unused files
Used files
CommonsDelinker: Replace File:Brachypelma boehmei 2009 G01.jpg with File:Something brilliant 01.jpg across all Wikimedia projects. Reason: File renamed (author request)
CommonsDelinker: Replace File:Brachypelma boehmei 2009 G02.jpg with File:Something brilliant 02.jpg across all Wikimedia projects. Reason: File renamed (author request)

Or something like that. Then it easy to move the files and to copy the code to Delinker. --MGA73 (talk) 11:38, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

Flickrreview

You found a lot of images that should be reviewed. I made my bot look for such images. Hopefully it found most of them. --MGA73 (talk) 21:20, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

Thanks. He found most but not all:
-- Common Good (talk) 21:44, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
No I only looked in files that was not bot-checked yet. I would like to avoid to run through all 6 mio. images :-) --MGA73 (talk) 21:53, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

Adminship?

Hello! I have been poking around your contribs and such, and I thought you would be a great candidate for adminship (from what I've seen). I was wondering if you have ever considered requesting it? If you would like to run, I can nominate you if you'd like. Feel free to email me if you'd rather talk about this in private. Killiondude (talk) 08:54, 5 February 2010 (UTC)

Funny thing. I've been thinking the same. I'm sure you would do fine. --MGA73 (talk) 10:48, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
I had to sleep on it before I made my decision. Well ... e-mail enabled, user page created ... yes, I would like to become an admin. -- Common Good (talk) 20:05, 8 February 2010 (UTC)
Great! Just sign Commons:Administrators/Requests/Common Good and remove the <nowiki> part (the scheduled end-time) when you're ready to accept it. If you would like to make any sort of statement regarding this request, you can do so at that point. If you just want to accept, that is also fine. Then you transclude the page onto Commons:Administrators/Requests. Killiondude (talk) 20:41, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

This edit...

This edit [3] made me run my bot to find more like that. It seems there was quite a few like that. --MGA73 (talk) 22:32, 7 February 2010 (UTC)

Good idea. Did you notice this? -- Common Good (talk) 20:07, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

An offering for our new administrator from your comrades...

Common Good, congratulations! You now have administrator rights on Commons. Please take a moment to read the Commons:Administrators page and watchlist related pages (in particular Commons:Administrators' noticeboard and Commons:Deletion requests), before launching yourself into page deletions, page protections, account blockings or modifications of protected pages. The majority of the actions of administrators can be reversed by the other admins, except for history merges which must thus be treated with particular care.

Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikimedia-commons on irc.freenode.net. There is also a channel for Commons admins, which may be useful for more sensitive topics, or coordination among administrators:#wikimedia-commons-admin.

You may find Commons:Guide to adminship to be useful reading.

Please also check or add your entry to the List of administrators and the related lists by language and date it references.

Re: Please use lossless cropping tools

Sorry for the incovenience, I'll use the tools yo've mentioned.--Xosema (talk) 00:03, 25 February 2010 (UTC)

How could you notice it was a lossy crop? :O :) -- Massic80 Contattami 20:25, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
The file size was larger after cropping. -- Common Good (talk) 20:29, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
Right, I didn't think of that strategy! Thanks! ;) -- Massic80 Contattami 13:46, 20 August 2010 (UTC)
