Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content). You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). Uploads deleted[edit]
For several reasons, I have deleted all of the files you uploaded:
- No permission. Although you say that you have permission of the copyright owner, we have no evidence of that.
- Commons is not a place to advertise.
- Commons is not your personal free web host. If you want to make images available for your distributors, put them in you own web space, not ours, or use Flickr.

Hi Jim
I have uploaded some new pictures. these have nothing to do with advertising. Just sharing some photos of a bamboo forest and some of half-finished bamboo chopsticks. For people who like bamboo this should be interesting — Preceding unsigned comment added by Clerkwheel (talk • contribs) 08:05, 18 August 2011 (UTC)
- OK -- First, please read and pay attention to the following canned message, even on your own talk page:
- "Please sign your posts on talk pages, user talk pages, deletion requests, and noticeboards. To do so, simply add four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your comments. Your user name or IP address (if you are not logged in) and the date will then automatically be added along with a timestamp when you save your comment. Signing your comments helps people to find out who said something and provides them with a link to your user/talk page (for further discussion). Thank you."
- Second, they all look like fair to excellent additions to Commons, thank you for them. It is essential, though, that you add categories to them, so that others can find them. I am sure that a BOT will come along and leave you a message shortly, but basically think about the following:
- Category:Bambuseae on all of them. unless you know the genus, in which case you should use that.
- Category:Bamboo kitchen utensils for a few
- A location category on all of them -- WP:EN gives me several possible locations for Anji -- it might be Category:Balasore district, or somewhere else.
- Feel free to ask questions here or you can always get me on my talk page. Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk to me) 11:04, 18 August 2011 (UTC)
Tip: Categorizing images[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 11:02, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

Where?[edit]
Hi. Could you identify the location of the photo you took File:Bamboo tricycle rickshaw.jpg -- at least what country this is in? Thanks. -- Infrogmation (talk) 21:24, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
