Image:Coriolis effect09.png and other[edit]
Thank you for uploading images on Commons.
Please copy all information from original image (author, uploader (if not the same), description) when you move it to Commons from other Wiki.
Please add your images to appropriative pages and/or categories where other users could easily find them. For example to Category:Mechanics or create special page/category for Coriolis effect.

- I think I should replace the {{PD}} tag I added to image:Coriolis_effect09.png with the tag {{PD-self}}
- I do not understand the copyright situation in wikipedia, and any information about it that I have encountered was incomprehensible to me. I'm baffled. Generally I manufacture drawings and animations myself and I tag them as {{PD-self}}.
- I'm not copyrights layer too :-) For your own images you are free to choose license compatible with Commons requirement (PD, GFDL, CC-SA, CC-SA-BY, etc.) --EugeneZelenko 03:35, 19 July 2005 (UTC)
- Image:coriolis_effect09.png is a bit of an exception. I made the foreground of that picture, the background is an image that I copied from this location, specifically, this image
- If you get free image as base for your work (for example from Commons), in general case you should keep original license. If image was copyrighted you can't claim it under your own license or derivative works could be prohibited. In case of this picture you should ask owners of source page for copyrights status. If this image is free (PD, GFDL, etc) you could leave it on Commons. Or you could redraw it based on free picture (see Category:Earth for details). --EugeneZelenko 03:35, 19 July 2005 (UTC)
- I have not been able to trace the origin of the image further back. Can you give me advice, would it be OK to tag Image:Coriolis_effect09 as {{PD-self}}?
- Currently the english, the Dutch and the Italian article about the coriolis effect use the images I have made. However, for example for the italian article the images have been copied to it.wikipedia.org, rather than relying on the Wikipedia Commons. I do not know whether in the future any version in any language will rely on the images uploaded to the wikipedia Commons. Perhaps I should not have uploaded the images to the Commons. --Cleontuni | Talk 21:15, 18 July 2005 (UTC)
- I strongly recommend to upload your own images directly to Commons. They are very good. This will save time to other Wikipedians and space on servers. License issues are not so ununderstandable :-) --EugeneZelenko 03:35, 19 July 2005 (UTC)

Thank you for providing images to the Wikimedia Commons. Please keep in mind that images uploaded to the Commons should be useful to all users of Wikimedia projects. This is possible only if the images can be found by other people.
To allow others to find the images you uploaded here, the images should be in some place that can be found by navigating the category structure. This means that you should put the images into appropriate topic pages, categories, optionally galleries, or both of them (see Commons:Categories). To find good categories for your images, the CommonSense tool may help.
You can find a convenient overview of your uploaded files in this gallery.
The important point is that the images should be placed in the general structure somewhere. There are a large number of completely unsorted images on the Commons right now. If you would like to help to place some of those images where they can be found, please do!
