Can I get a copy of the source?[edit]

Hi Chris, I like the cartogram a lot. I made a verision that cleaned up the map to make it easier to read the states. could you send me the source so I could publish it? I only have a rough draft of the edits now. my email is gault8121@gmail.com

Sent.
Today is the first day I've logged on here in over a month and only this morning saw your msg. I hope you can still make use of the source file.--ChrisnHouston (talk) 17:29, 21 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Good cartogram[edit]

Chris, you did a very good job on this map. I really like it! Goodtimber (talk) 16:58, 5 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Glad you like it! I actually got the idea back during the 2000 election, during life before Wikipedia!ChrisnHouston (talk) 23:23, 5 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Can you make one of the Nebraska squares gray and subtract the resultant EV? NE-2 hasn't been called for McCain. Sceptre (talk) 18:54, 5 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Whoa, it took me a while to come around, but I got educated on your point and found a source about the NE-2 situation that puts me in total agreement with you (http://www.wowt.com/news/headlines/33926434.html). I will promptly post the new image with your corrections. Thanks!ChrisnHouston (talk) 23:49, 5 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. The electoral college system itself is confusing to a foreign like me to begin with, without getting into Congressional splitting. Hell, if I wasn't as interested in elections as I am, I would've needed the lecture the BBC gave out when offering coverage. Incidentally, North Carolina has been called for Obama just now. Sceptre (talk) 19:41, 6 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Not many Americans fully grasp the concept either. The map's now updated with NC called for Obama. Thanks again.ChrisnHouston (talk) 21:11, 6 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Obama is very likely to take Nebraska's second congressional district, but it's not absolutely certain yet; see [1]. FiveThirtyEight (who have been extremely reliable and predictive this year) have projected it for Obama too. Sceptre (talk) 04:39, 8 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed. ...with a tweak to the pie chart orienting it with Blue on the Left and Red on the Right, going over the top to pass the 270 mark. Now there is just one more adjustment to make: Missouri. (Assuming that the electors actually follow through with this projection.)ChrisnHouston (talk) 02:35, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Question about cartogram[edit]

Hello... can you please explain what the three rogue boxes represent just below CT? Thanks!

That's supposed to be Long Island! If you count up all the mainland NY boxes with those three, it should total 31. Notice over the top of Wisconsin there are the three similar boxes hanging out with no label as well. Those are supposed to represent Michigan's UP. Obviously there are severe limitations when you try to draw states with coarse boxes, but this representation attempts to capture certain prominent features, like Cape Cod, Key West, San Francisco Bay, as well as Lake Michigan and New York Harbor.
If anyone would like to try improving it, I'd be glad to supply the source Powerpoint document.ChrisnHouston (talk) 23:30, 5 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please correct the map. Nebraska-2 was called for Obama earlier today. Just a reminder. --AEMoreira042281 (talk) 00:45, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Thanks for the help.ChrisnHouston (talk) 02:35, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AP is reporting MO went McCain. Please update! Thanks, and cheers. 131.252.193.124 21:49, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You can thank Collegebookworm for taking care of that update. A few weeks from now we can remove that *Projected caveat.--ChrisnHouston (talk) 03:31, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Request to add 112th Congress to Combined--Control of the House and Senate...[edit]

I like the infographic File:Combined--Control of the U.S. House of Representatives - Control of the U.S. Senate.png; is the source available so that it can more easily be updated for the 112th Congress and perhaps rendered as an .svg? Thank you, MarkWarren (talk) 19:46, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's a great image too! Or at least has potential to be. Tonight I learned that several errors had been found way back in Nov2010, but for whatever reason these went uncorrected. I fixed the errors where the Presidents' bar had the party reversed. It looks like more work needs to be done before this becomes a top quality image.
As for the source data, Taylorluker created the two images that I cited as the source of what I posted. All I did was cut & paste from those two images. I haven't yet found the raw data, but I agree that this can be an amazingly useful image to keep it up to date ...and to make sure that the info being presented is accurate!--ChrisnHouston (talk) 09:10, 13 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I feel a lot more confident about the accuracy of the image now. I looked up the supposed error regarding Senate majority during Reagan's terms, and the person who made that claim is clearly the one who is mistaken. As for extending the timeline, we can just use the data presented here:

112th United States Congress
113th United States Congress

I think this image has a great future for telling a key aspect to the story of US history.--ChrisnHouston (talk) 09:35, 13 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ok Mark, I went ahead and made the changes myself. The chart is now current and can be expected to stay current through 2015. Thanks for helping to get me going on that.--ChrisnHouston (talk) 11:22, 13 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I left you a note at File_talk:US Presidents Map of Oaths and Exits.png. In short, FDR didn't die in DC. He died in Georgia. Hoshie (talk) 22:30, 15 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed! Thank you so much. More stated over at the file page...--ChrisnHouston (talk) 02:56, 16 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

83rd Congress and Control of the U.S. House of Representatives[edit]

In your excellent chart, I fear that I have found a small error. The GOP regained control of the House during the 83rd Congress, as the line graph shows, but you appear to show Democrats retaining control from '51 to '95 in the shading. I am not certain if this is the best way to note this apparent discrepancy, so ask you to pardon me if I have erred. Czrisher (talk) 16:41, 28 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! The image is now fixed. And the source image is fixed as well.--ChrisnHouston (talk) 20:15, 28 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

2016 Electoral College Cartogram[edit]

You've displayed May with 3 EVs, but it has 4. -- Foofighter20x (talk) 17:52, 9 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. What it should have shown was three blue & one red. That's now been fixed.--ChrisnHouston (talk) 07:13, 10 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

File:Flight 1549-OptionsNotTaken.PNG[edit]

I note your excellent diagram of the Hudson crash. Would it be possible to also add the location of the actual bird strike? And to change the times to include the seconds? Would make the huge delay in making the turn much more obvious. Tuntable (talk) 23:51, 17 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I don't have that data. But if you post your suggestion in the Discussion section for the map, I expect that there will be someone who can add that more detailed info. I haven't looked at the official mishap report in years, but it is also possible that this data was published there also.--ChrisnHouston (talk) 01:24, 18 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Presidents and congress chart[edit]

Hi, will you be updating your excellent File:Combined--Control of the U.S. House of Representatives - Control of the U.S. Senate.png to reflect the situation that will prevail for the first two years of the Trump administration? Thanks for making this image and keeping it updated. Wyddgrug (talk) 01:43, 24 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
