File:Piazza della Cisterna.jpg and other three photos

Mmh... Why do you think that they should be deleted? She claims that is all "own work"... Derivative work, perhaps?--Trixt (talk) 19:30, 6 April 2011 (UTC)

I thought from the reference to photos, plural (per poter pubblicare le foto), that she meant that Piazza della Cisterna.jpg and File:Ricostruzione San Gimignano.jpg were both photos taken by someone else. She clearly says that she took the other three photos herself, and I can find nothing to the contrary. I do not think the other three photos ("queste tre foto") should be deleted. Thanks.--Chaser (talk) 01:18, 7 April 2011 (UTC)

P.S. a tip (if I can): in English, you say "to take a photo" when you use a camera; but in Italian "prendere una foto" it's like "to take a photo and bring it somewhere", for example "prendere una foto da un muro" (to take a photo from a wall where it was hanged) or "prendere una foto da Internet" (to take a photo from Internet and download it on your PC). In Italian, if you want to know if someone is the person who take the photo with the camera (the photographer), you should use always the verb "scattare", that is unambiguos ;)

Thank you. I always appreciate corrections. I'd used fare in Barletta, but I am forgetting things. I asked for clarification here.--Chaser (talk) 22:51, 6 April 2011 (UTC)
Oh, right, "fare" is correct too, although "scattare" is more precise (see ;)--Trixt (talk) 19:10, 7 April 2011 (UTC)
I didn't know scattare's exact meaning. Thank you.--Chaser (talk) 03:31, 8 April 2011 (UTC)

Hello, Chaser!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

OTRS for images

Please check the permission for my images: File:Dylan_Sprouse_2010.jpg, File:Dylan_Sprouse_2010_2.jpg, File:Cole_Sprouse_2010.jpg--Hoangquan hientrang (talk) 11:35, 24 April 2011 (UTC)

Sorry, I'm not going to do that. I've done a few and assisted with a few in the past as a courtesy, but I am currently too busy to do that. You'll have to wait for those images to come up in the queue. The people currently working the queue will get to them when they can. See Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard/FAQ.--Chaser (talk) 17:15, 24 April 2011 (UTC)

DoD images

That's the response that pops-up after you send the email, I guess they send the "official" response when they read your email. Sounds good enough for me to allow usage in Commons... Oaktree b (talk) 03:36, 18 May 2011 (UTC)

Hi Chaser, you reviewed this flickr-file but the image is licensed under Attribution-NoDerivs 2.0 Generic (CC BY-ND 2.0) "No Derivative Works — You may not alter, transform, or build upon this work. ". The uploaded image is cropped ("altered") from the original. What is to do? --Gunnex (talk) 14:53, 4 June 2011 (UTC)

Good catch. It's since been deleted. Thanks.--Chaser (talk) 22:43, 7 June 2011 (UTC)

Chiru_Padmabhushan.jpg

Thanks for reviewing the image. Can the deletion tag now be removed? --Vensatry (talk) 08:57, 12 June 2011 (UTC)

The problem is lack of free images for the actor. I'm trying to find one. The present image doesn't look good. --Vensatry (talk) 02:15, 13 June 2011 (UTC)

IP User

That IP User traces back through Pima County, Arizona. It is probably the actual copyright holder, but I will see if I can get the information you need. -- Avanu (talk) 21:28, 12 June 2011 (UTC)

Yes, I was about to send that Email Template. -- Avanu (talk) 21:36, 12 June 2011 (UTC)

Voting ineligibility

Could you just explain why my vote was ineligible to be counted for POTY 2010? I checked it myself using the stalk toy and it shows that I have the required number of edits on the English-language Wikipedia.Icosahedron (talk) 22:35, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

Yes. People had to have at least 200 edits on some project before Jan 1 to vote. The eligiblity criteria are to accept votes from people that were eligible on Commons OR had global accounts and were eligible on some other wiki. You're eligible on Wikipedia, but you do not have your accounts linked (a global account). Compare these links. In ignorance of these rules, I checked a few votes by leaving messages like the one I left you. But I did this mostly on just one image. The result was that your vote was counted because you were eligible in spirit (over 200 edits on en.wiki) but not eligible according to the rules (no global account). This was inconsistent because voters in the same situation, who had voted for other images, were not counted. My initial instinct was to simply make them consistent (count the votes the same way) by not counting the people I had contacted. Avenue suggested here that people might be upset by this, so we should count these votes (whether we count them or not, the rankings are not affected). I'm OK with his suggestion, although we still haven't changed things back. I'm not sure whether the issue is finally resolved or not.--Chaser (talk) 23:52, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

OK, well that's fair enough I suppose. Thank you for the prompt reply. I've now unified my accounts across all wiki projects. Icosahedron (talk) 17:38, 17 June 2011 (UTC)

poty

Thank you for POTY checking. Can we close the competition? Please see here.--miya (talk) 00:43, 24 June 2011 (UTC)

File:La_Petite_Géante_(Royal_de_Luxe)_Eskimo_12.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
