First steps tutorial

Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content).

You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
  • You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
  • To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
  • You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
  • There are several tools to upload files.
  • Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.
Made a mistake?
  • Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.
  • Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

Some friendly advice[edit]

When you upload a new version of a file, if you do not see your changes right away, just stop and wait. Do not keep uploading your change or reverting the file, just wait. It's a delay in the servers, and if you keep uploading your change you will only make the delay worse. Fry1989 eh? 00:25, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]


Coat of arms of Montenegro (1711).png[edit]

Mislio sam da promeniš boju orla, pa da aplouduješ novi fajl, ne novu verziju istog fajla. Ovako ostaje samo verzija sa srebrnim orlom, a ona sa zlatnim je zamenjena. Pošto imamo različita mišljenja, mislim da bi bilo sasvim OK da ostanu obe verzije na Vikimediji. Mislim, da ne počnemo prepirku, sad ja ponovo stavim verziju sa zlatnim orlom, pa ti sa srebrnim i tako u nedogled. Pošto postoje dva mišljenja, bilo bi pošteno da postoje i dva različita fajla na Vikimediji - jedan sa srebrnim, a jedan sa zlatnim orlom. Па, нисам се никако увредио, само сам мислио да оставимо обе верзије. Мада, баш сам у последњих неколико дана читао о раној црногорској хералдици, и врло, врло је могуће да је орао бео. Ја сам веровао да је орао златан због тога што је узет од Црнојевића. Онда сам читао да је владика Данило највероватније видео те орлове на манастиру у Цетињу пре његовог рушења. Тада сам био сигуран да је од Црнојевића, али на тим орловима уклесаним у стену никако није било боје - били су само уклесани, али не и офарбани. Дакле, не мора да значи да је био златан. Поздрав. Кад је реч о овом грбу, на орлу није грб Петровић-Његоша, јер они тад још нису имали породични грб. То је грб Судића из илирских грбовника. Зато је штит беле боје, а на њему црвени орао.
