Goodies, tips, and tricks

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

ウィキペディアタウン等のオフラインイベントについて[edit]

Asturio Cantabrioと申します。ButuCCさんは「ウィキペディアタウン」に興味をお持ちではありませんか？

ウィキペディアタウンは地域文化への理解を深めたり、オープンデータに親しんでもらうことを目的としたイベントです。幅広い年代・幅広い属性の参加者がおり、主にウィキペディアの編集初心者を対象としています。いわゆるウィキペディアンが編集のサポートを行い、たとえば城宝寺 (田原市)のような記事を作成します。脇役であるウィキペディアンの参加者はそれほど多くありません。

2016年9月・11月・2017年1月と、愛知県豊橋市/田原市で全3回のウィキペディアタウンが開催されました（主催者による開催報告[1]、ウィキペディア内の開催告知ページ[2]。）2017年度も愛知県内でイベントの開催が計画されています。

駅番号アイコンについて[edit]

こんにちは。鉄道関連の作業を多数こなされており、大変助かっております。


さて、表題の件ですが、ButuCCさんが作成されたアイコンの内、駅番号が入っていない物（名鉄等）の作成はできませんでしょうか？日本語版ではテンプレートで処理できますが、他言語版や他プロジェクトでも使える様していただけたらと思います。大変面倒な作業でも申し訳ありませんが、是非ご検討いただけたらと思います。--隼鷹 (トーク) 12:32, 1 June 2017 (UTC)

名鉄の場合、路線記号に相当するもので実例が確認できるのが番号無しではなく番号を「00」にしたケース（[3]）なんですよね…。00版を作ろうかどうかは迷っていたので（それを）路線記号として使う用途でアップロードすることは出来ますが、番号無しの路線記号オンリーは実際の使用例がない（＝デザインしようがない）ので現状では作るつもりはありません。--ButuCC (talk) 12:56, 1 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for the response, that definitely helps! I'm mostly looking into making the signs SVGs for my own interest in automating SVG file creation, it's not terribly important to have them as such. I got a bit carried away looking into fonts I suppose. Interesting that it's not entirely consistent. Thanks for the file, that hadn't come up in my research, although the high-quality sign photographs on Commons were generally sufficient.
