Re-uploads[edit]

Hi, when you produce newer/updated/corrected versions of your files, please don't upload them as new files, but instead overwrite the existing file: "Upload a new version of this file" is available on each file page, and brings you to the upload wizard that lets you overwrite that older version. I noticed that File:Türk_Halkları_Günümüz.png, File:Türk_Dilleri.png and File:Türk_Halkları.png look almost identical; the wrong one(s) should better be deleted now, I think. --Enyavar (talk) 10:33, 3 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Factuality of maps[edit]

Several of your maps have content which I tend to doubt, which has lead me to doubt the accuracy of all your maps.

The biggest problem is that nomadic peoples' "empires" don't have fixed borders that you can exactly pin down (exact borders are conventionally marked by thick lines). In reality their area was less marked with a secured and controlled border, but was fluent in nature. This is best expressed with the mapping convention of a fuzzy border, like here - I've drawn the borders of the Empires there in a fuzzy way because they historically tended to changed a lot even in the course of one year: "direct control" in pre-modern times could only be had over the area where the ruler's army was at that very moment. All other areas were never certain under the ruler's control; and even my map there is probably an exaggeration for each culture. Your maps of medieval Turk peoples have the same issue.

Also, several areas of direct control I found to be exaggerated (bad research?). Just as one blatant example, HERE you suggest direct Hunnic control over all of Denmark, Lithuania and Poland, which is certainly not true. Also not fully factual is a map that takes the distribution area of all hunnic peoples and then claims they were all part of the same khaganate, possibly even under the rule of Attila. The European part in that orange map is more believable, however. Best is, of course, to not assume huge unhospitable swaths of lands are "under control" of some empire, and draw fuzzy borders: Here we have a more conservative estimate of the realm of Attila, I can fully get behind that one.

Maps may look great, cool and clean, but when the contents are wrong, they are unusable in an encyclopedia. --Enyavar (talk) 10:36, 3 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I understand your concern but I really use a lot of resources to make these maps and objectivity is my main element when making maps. It will be noticed as the maps I share this increase. I can share the resources if you want :). — Preceding unsigned comment added by BsFiliz (talk • contribs) 13:04, 3 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I see that you uploaded some more maps, but didn't correct older, erroneous maps. Other users also noticed a lack of sources for your maps: The simple claim that you used "a lot of resources to make these maps" doesn't help to reassure a fact-based community like us here on commons. For as long as you don't cite sources, I don't believe for example that the Huns were a Turkic people that subdued parts of Sweden when Attila reigned. Those sources need to be stated in the file descriptions. And given some other neglect or oversights that can be spotted, I don't think any of your maps about central asian history which you draw in broad strokes can really stand up to fact-checks. --Enyavar (talk) 08:54, 15 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I understand your worries. I plan to fix them as soon as possible. I will also indicate in the source on the maps I made later. BsFiliz (talk) 15:45, 17 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
