Please contact me via my talk page on wikinews, I am not an active commoner. --Brianmc 21:14, 15 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to encourage Commons admins to use Magnus' ExCommons tool where I may have uploaded sets of media from which some are in-use on Wikinews articles. Such can, in most cases, be considered part of my Reporter's notes.
Where, as I have experienced, unused images may fall outwith an individual admin's understanding of Commons project scope, that may not be the case for future use on Wikinews.
I'm happy to have these as galleries under my userpage on Wikinews, as-opposed to seeing them lost. Obviously that would not apply were I to in-error upload sub-30Kb thumbnails (has happened).

Tip: Categorizing images[edit]

Thank you for your contributions. Your image or other content, File:Hopetoun Cres Gdn, Edinburgh 014.jpg, was recently deleted, or will soon be deleted, in accordance with our process and policies, because it was not, or is not, within our scope. Please review our project scope, but in short, Commons is targeted at educational media files including photographs, diagrams, animations, music, spoken text and video clips. The expression “educational” is to be understood according to its broad meaning of “providing knowledge; instructional or informative”. Wikimedia Commons does not contain text articles like encyclopedia articles, textbooks, news, word definitions and such. Each of these other kinds of content have their own projects: Wikipedia, Wikibooks, Wikisource, Wikinews, Wiktionary and Wikiquote. If the content seems to fit the scope of one of those other projects, please consider contributing it there. Otherwise, consider an alternative outlet. If you think that the deletion was in error because the contribution really was in scope, you can appeal it at Commons:Undeletion requests, giving a reason why it fits our scope to help others evaluate the matter. Thank you for your understanding.

and also File:Hopetoun Cres Gdn, Edinburgh 015.jpg. These two are extremely blurry and can't be used. Vera (talk) 01:55, 4 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's not a big deal, but you've made other pictures of the same park that are fine and these two just where way too blurry to be usefull. --Vera (talk) 13:59, 4 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • I think I'd, most likely, the camera on the wrong setting. As you say, it's no big deal as there are others. What's interesting about that park is it is all that remains of the original site of Edinburgh's Botanic Gardens. --Brian McNeil / talk 08:28, 5 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Edinburgh Bedroom Tax Protest[edit]

Thanks for uploading the photos in Category:Edinburgh_Bedroom_Tax_Protest,_March_30_2013. Some of the pictures (filenames starting with T-) are 160x120 thumbnail images. Please upload the full versions if you can, such tiny images are at risk of being deleted. Thanks, moogsi (blah) 14:43, 31 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks, I just deleted the duplicates, the Ts left in there don't have a full-size version. Also, some Fs are miniature as well:

  • Thanks for the tidy-up. I'm well-pleased with quite a few of the photos in that lot.
Would love to see a few Commoners look at doing photoessay-type contributions for Wikinews; here's the article done to use the photos. --Brian McNeil / talk 08:17, 21 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
File:NMoS King Ashurnasirpal II panel 01.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Panoramic vs. Stitched Images[edit]

Hi there,

I've moved some of your images out of "Category:Panoramics of Edinburgh" and into the (newly-created) "Category:Stitched images of Edinburgh".

While panoramic views are often stitched, the two aren't synonymous; panoramic views aren't necessarily stitched and relatively close-up images like this one aren't "panoramic" in that sense, even if they *are* stitched.

Nothing wrong with the photos themselves, by the way- thanks for the contributions, I just thought I should explain myself.

All the best! Ubcule (talk) 20:45, 2 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Absolutely no problem with the move(s), 'tis just common-sense. Which is, as I'm sure you know, scarily uncommon. --Brian McNeil / talk 22:58, 2 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

September 2019: it's Wiki Loves Monuments time again![edit]

Hi

You're receiving this message because you've previously contributed to the annual Wiki Loves Monuments contest in the UK. We'd be delighted if you would do so again this year and help record our local built environment for future generations.

You can find more details at the Wiki Loves Monuments UK website. Or, if you have images taken in other countries, you can check the international options. This year's contest runs until 30 September 2019.

Many thanks for your help once more! MichaelMaggs (talk) 15:34, 3 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
