Thanks for your contribution, Wikimedia needs more images of chemical structures. In the future could you generaly categorise them: Category:Amino acids, Category:Alkanes, &c. --Oldak Quill 23:19, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Sure. I didn't know Commons was categoised, but I will do that from now on. Borb 00:08, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)

SVG problems[edit]

Thank you for the Image:FusionintheSun.svg I ask for. SVG have some problem. I hope that the Wikimedia will improve, and will mark the arrow heads. At my computer, the Firefox doesn't show gamma and mu if I watch the SVG file directly, but it can be font problems at my Debian Linux.

I will translate the text into Hungarian now. -- Arpad Horvath 08:29, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fonts: I don't know what fonts are crossplatform, I'm not an expert at the field of fonts. If it helps you, in the Inkscape I have the fonts:

Bitstream

charter
vera sans
vera sans mono
vera serif

century schoolbook l courier 10 pitch cursor dingbats monospace nimbus

mono l
roman no9 l
sans l

opensymbol sans serif standars symbols l terminus URW

bookman l
chancery l
gothic l
palladio l

(You can talk with me here (at your talkpage) you are on my watchlist.) --Arpad Horvath 09:31, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have just realized, that you use Inkscape. At your version it is allowed to use Times New Roman? (I have got the version 0.34, I use with Debian Linux.) -- Arpad Horvath 11:05, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I was using Inkscape on Windows, and it allowed me to use every font that I have installed on Windows. I am going to try to find out which fonts are the best to use for cross platform support. I would assume the ones you mentioned above would be. Are there any guidelines for creating SVGs? Maybe a set of fonts should be set for Wikimedia projects to use which will be supported on many platforms. -- Borb 17:27, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have proven some other fonts, but the Firefox 1.5 (Linux) don't show gamma and mu.

I have made the Hungarian version of your picture: Image:Fuzio_napban.svg. Did you find a good manner to list and maintain the language versions? I find it not to good, that eg. in the

I have found two useful links at en:SVG at the bottom of the page according Wikimedia Commons. -- Arpad Horvath 12:12, 6 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I wrote question about our problems here. I don't see Wikimedia frequently, so if you see that there is an answer, write me (here good). -- Arpad Horvath 13:01, 6 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have been researching our problems and I have posted some answers and solutions I have found on the meta page. -- Borb 18:31, 6 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have uploaded another version of my diagram with paths instead of the Times New Roman font. I am pretty sure that this will work on your browser now. I have also created a section on the description page for Other Languages where I have so far listed your translation. I'm going to try to make a template like the Babel template which can list all of the different lanuages that the diagram is available in. -- Borb 19:23, 6 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I show your new version of FusionintheSun, and it is perfect with Firefox. -- Arpad Horvath 14:52, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Archlinux-official-gradient-logo-only.svg was only available under a CC-BY-NC-SA license, thus making it non-free for commercial use and therefore unsuitable for Commons. Although it doesn't say it explicitly on http://archlinux.org/art/, you had clicked on the words "Creative Commons" in the first sentence, you would have seen it. Please be more careful with your uploads. Regards, howcheng {chat} 17:01, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Borb!

Thank you for providing images to the Wikimedia Commons. Please keep in mind that images uploaded to the Commons should be useful to all users of Wikimedia projects. This is possible only if the images can be found by other people.

To allow others to find the images you uploaded here, the images should be in some place that can be found by navigating the category structure. This means that you should put the images into appropriate topic pages, categories, optionally galleries, or both of them (see Commons:Categories). To find good categories for your images, the CommonSense tool may help.

You can find a convenient overview of your uploaded files in this gallery.

The important point is that the images should be placed in the general structure somewhere. There are a large number of completely unsorted images on the Commons right now. If you would like to help to place some of those images where they can be found, please do!

Thank you. Yuval Y § Chat § 11:41, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Borb!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

File:QM2inOslo.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
