Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Rabinder Singh Bio Pic[edit]

In answer to your question the Rabinder Singh bio pic used in the info box come form a digital camera, which begs the question how did you get that angle becuase youd have to be a justice or do you?. The only cameras that can be used in the court are its own if you've every been you can see them mounted on the wall. However, on the bottom floor of the court there is an exhibition area which broadcasts the procedings of the court on a couple of big screen tv's of and shows all the angles, ergo, you can take a pic. --InExcelsisDeo (talk) 14:51, 2 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It has Exif Data because i used the sniping tool on vista to crop it from the photograph, also isnt UKSC footage public domain like footage from the commons, lords and select committees. I'sat in the Lords (not the gallery) and in a selcet committee gallery before as a vistor and i queried about image use they told me all footage is public domain. I can't see why the UKSC would be any different. But then again i dont know.--InExcelsisDeo (talk) 15:14, 2 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Some Queries I Was After Some Help With[edit]

Hey Bencherlite. I've been asked to do a new project on the Durham Coats of Arms in a similar vein to the Oxford ones. Wether these get adopted or not I'm not really bothered about, but I was wondering if you might be able to help with the some queries that have arisen with regard there blazons. I'm just messaging round at the moment to see if anyone has some useful input on the topic, as I'm a little unsure about one or two aspects. DR notifications[edit]

If tracking DRs on forthcoming TFA related images is a concern, this is the sort of thing a daily running bot could sort out as a handy reference table to alert en.wp admins/TFA interested editors. It would just be a case of checking for images used in pending-TFA categorized articles against images with open DRs on Commons (they are categorized neatly into month-specific DR cats). You could ask for this on Commons:Bots/Work_requests or maybe it might be relevant for Wikipedia:Database_reports. DR notification is something that often gets little attention and in practice can be quite hard to work out who interested parties might be, so it is unlikely that we will tighten guidelines for this as, if anything, the real problem for Commons is encouraging newer users to raise DRs on suspect images. --Fæ (talk) 13:56, 22 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

HI Fæ, it's such a rare event that an image scheduled for use at TFA is up for deletion at Commons that I think that asking for a bot or database report is low priority. I know that there used to be a bot system of alerting talk pages of en articles when an image was up for deletion, but that must have fallen out of use some time ago, as now I come to think of it I'm pretty sure that all the examples I've seen in the past have been old notifications not recent ones. Important message for file movers[edit]

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.

Possible acceptable uses of this ability:

  • To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
  • To perform file name swaps.
  • When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)

Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.

The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Can you take the outdated picture of Watford County Court down as it’s now misleading people, the building moved to 10 King St Watford WD18 0BW

Your image is one of the first results on Google. People are going to the wrong location and missing their court hearings.
