Thanks for that. --Tagishsimon (talk) 10:02, 18 October 2012 (UTC)

My pleasure -- Avi (talk) 15:29, 18 October 2012 (UTC)

Hi. When you have a moment, could you do me a favor. I decided to occupy my time to list the no-FoP files in Italy. It has been a long and difficult work that needs to be reviewed by administrators. Please, could you check if everything is correct on User:Raoli/Deletion requests/FoP Italy? Thanks! Raoli ✉ (talk) 23:18, 1 December 2012 (UTC)

Latern in Vipava

Hi, sorry to bother you, but I really have to disagree with you on the closing rationale of Commons:Deletion requests/File:Vipava Tabor Turm Laterne Detail 15092007 44.jpg: it's a lamp, not a sculpture. Well, per Article 5.10 of the Slovene copyright act, "works of applied art and industrial design" are copyrightable too. This lamp clearly belongs in this category and is original enough to be copyrightable. As to the wall and the wire, what creative element do you see on them? Thanks and regards. --Eleassar (t/p) 09:12, 10 January 2013 (UTC)

From w::Industrial design: "Industrial design is the use of a combination of applied art and applied science to improve the aesthetics, ergonomics, functionality, and usability of a product, but it may also be used to improve the product's marketability and production." Where do you see that in that lamp? It was about as functional as can be; frame, glass, and support. More specifcically, from w:Industrial design rights in the European Union (slightly paraphrased), "Designs may be protected if they are novel, that is if no design identical or differing only in immaterial details has been made available to the public or they have individual character, that is the "informed user" would find the overall impression different from other designs which are available to the public. Where a design forms part of a more complex product, the novelty and individual character of the design are judged on the part of the design which is visible during normal use. Designs are not protected insofar as their appearance is wholly determined by their technical function, or by the need to interconnect with other products to perform a technical function (the "must-fit" exception).". The lamp does not seem to fall in either category; it is just a lamp attached to a wall. However, if you really feel strongly about it, open a new discussion with more evidence; I will not close it. -- Avi (talk) 14:04, 10 January 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for a detailed answer. I'll think about this, but will probably not renominate the file. --Eleassar (t/p) 14:24, 10 January 2013 (UTC)

Hello Avi,

could you please take a look at this discussion. I ask for your opinion cause you were the closing admin in this discussion (back in November 2009), which was about the same topic. Best regards.--FAEP (talk) 13:13, 19 February 2014 (UTC)

Thank you for the notice. -- Avi (talk) 16:14, 19 February 2014 (UTC)

Metadata contains personal information

Hi Avraham, after an exhaustive effort trying to find the answer on my own, I decided to contact you. I accidentally included my (real) name in the metadata of a photo I uploaded, located here. I have absolutely no idea how to delete (or hide) it. My name appears under "user comments" in the EXIF data. Thank you very much for your time! --Hoosier1820 (talk) 20:51, 25 May 2014 (UTC)

Hello, Hoosier. The fastest and most private way to handle personal information issues is to contact the Wikimedia Commons Oversight team at oversight-commons@lists.wikimedia.org. Although ombudsmen are expected to minimize their use of the tools to prevent any conflicts of interest, a few years ago, the foundation lifted the actual restrictions against such use. As you said you made an exhaustive effort, I figured time was of the essence, so I have downloaded the file, erased that entry from the EXIF, re-uploaded it, and suppressed the initial file. I also slightly changed the license template to clarify that you are the copyright holder and should get the attribution. Good Luck! -- Avi (talk) 23:32, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
Thank you very much Avraham! I greatly, greatly, greatly appreciate your efforts on my behalf. You are a true professional! --Hoosier1820 (talk) 14:56, 1 June 2014 (UTC)

Image permission

Hi Avraham. I recently uploaded 2 images and emailed the creators permission. It now says that it isn't sufficient permission, but I hve no idea why. Please help me sort this out. Dovikap (talk) 14:18, 14 July 2014 (UTC)

Oversight

I noticed no recent oversight actions. Unless you have to be an admin, I would be available to take your place as an Oversighter. I mostly do graphs and charts, and have done about 1,000 of these. Right now I am mostly working on creating and translating SVG images. Apteva (talk) 04:33, 13 January 2015 (UTC)

I have pulled back from actively oversighting as I am currently a sitting Ombudsman for the Wikimedia Foundation, and so voluntarily minimized my activities which relate to privacy issues so that it would be less likely I need to recuse myself should a case arise. In time sensitive cases I will still act, but that has rarely been the case this year. What is preventing you from requesting Oversight privileges on your own? -- Avi (talk) 08:03, 13 January 2015 (UTC)
Nothing really. Of the several items that I needed to be oversighted recently, all but one were done in a very timely manner, with that one taking a little over two hours. Apteva (talk) 22:24, 13 January 2015 (UTC)

NoFoP deletions

Your deletions was not according procedure. NoFoP DRs must have category like Category:Ukrainian FOP cases/pending. Some users watch such categories. In some DRs which you deleted today there were no such categroy, and users did not see these requests in time, and cannot commented them. So, I'll restore file for one week more to give users possibilty to discuss them.--Anatoliy (talk) 23:20, 7 July 2015 (UTC)

Fair enough, thank you. Be sure to add that category when you undelete. -- Avi (talk) 15:17, 8 July 2015 (UTC)

Help with transfer ownership

Dear Avi, you seem omnipresent :) . Could you tell me how to transfer ownership of a photo file to another user? My son and I were both using my Iphone camera, taking turns, and now I realized that the photo I uploaded was his. How could I transfer the ownership to him without messing up the copyright (since I was the one who originally upload it to Commons)? Thanks. --Caballero//Historiador 23:11, 14 February 2016 (UTC)

Hi, Caballero1967. I am not a lawyer, nor do I play one on YouTube, but you might find http://fairuse.stanford.edu/overview/copyright-research/ownership-and-transfers/ and http://www.bitlaw.com/copyright/license.html helpful. Good luck! -- Avi (talk) 23:35, 16 February 2016 (UTC)
Thanks, Avi. I wish I could see you in a show in Youtube, though. --Caballero//Historiador 22:07, 17 February 2016 (UTC)

Requesting to delete a photo i uploaded

Hey Avraham, I am requesting you, as an administrator, to delete a photo of myself uploaded File:User Winterysteppe in a 1937 Packard Limo.JPG. In second thoughts, i think its better that it is deleted as i don't want any identifiable things on the internet. . Winterysteppe (talk) 03:27, 14 April 2016 (UTC)

De-adminship warning

This talk page in other languages:

Dear Avraham, I am writing to inform you that you are in danger of losing your adminship on Commons because of inactivity.

If you want to keep your adminship, you need both to sign at Commons:Administrators/Inactivity section/Feb-Mar 2017 within 30 days of today's date, and also to make at least five further admin actions in the following six months. Anyone who does not do so will automatically lose administrator rights.

You can read the de-admin policy at Commons:Administrators/De-adminship.

Thank you, odder (talk) 02:00, 16 February 2017 (UTC)

Thanks. I will sign for now but may reconsider depending on outcome of steward elections. Thanks. -- Avi (talk) 02:08, 16 February 2017 (UTC)
