Answer

Hello,

I answered Here

Best regards, Abigor talk 16:46, 30 December 2008 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for taking my suggestion, although it's your photo and your choice. The previous one do look more dark greenish.

No problem. I still think the new pic lacks colour and the old one is too blue, not green.--Anna Frodesiak (talk) 21:46, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Hello, Anna Frodesiak!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

File:Mentzelia multiflora - Adonis blazingstar - photo by Patrick J. Alexander.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Thank you for providing images to Wikimedia Commons. Please keep in mind that images and other files on Commons must be under a free license and should be useful to the Wikimedia projects. To allow others to use your files, some additional information must be given on the description page. Most importantly:
 • Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
 • State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitly. If it is from another Wikimedia user, link to the person's local user page. Best to use CommonsHelper.
 • If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
 • Add a copyright tag - images without an appropriate license tag will be deleted.
 • Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate categories, so it can be found by others. To find out where an image belongs, you can use CommonsSense.

If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki. Use CommonsHelper.

It is recommended to use Template:Information to put that information on the description page. Have a look at Template talk:Information for details of the use of this template.

You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file.

Please add as much information as possible. If there is not sufficient information, the file may have to be deleted. For more information, follow the Commons:First steps guide. If you need help or have questions, please ask at the Help desk.

Thank you.

Pay attention to copyright
Wikimedia Commons does not accept fair use content.

We do this because Commons is a shared media repository. Downstream wikis have different policies based on local laws. Uses that are acceptable under US law, for example, may not be acceptable in many other countries with more restrictive rules.

In addition, fair use is not compatible with our aim as a collection of freely distributable media files.

Therefore, Commons cannot legally rely on fair use provisions.

Non-free content that may be used with reference to fair use may be uploaded locally if your project allows this.

You're now a filemover

Hi Anna Frodesiak/archives1, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:

 • Use the CommonsDelinker link in the Rename template to order a bot to replace all ocurrences of the old title with the new one.
 • Please do not tag redirects as Speedy. Other projects, like InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references.
 • For guideline when to rename a file, please see here.

It's not a big problem, but something to keep in mind in future. I changed or added cats on a few of them (to what depends on each specific image). To see the categories on your images, go here: [1] (when the toolserver is working)... AnonMoos (talk) 08:00, 1 December 2011 (UTC)

Critically evaluate Flickr licenses
File:Joseph Kony 02.jpg has been marked as a copyright violation. You may have preserved the information shown on Flickr correctly when transferring the image here, but the Flickr uploader is not the copyright holder of this image. Either the image was created by someone else, or it is a derivative of someone else's work. As stated in Commons:Licensing, only the copyright holder may issue a license, so the one shown on Flickr is invalid. Always remember to critically evaluate Flickr licenses. Photostreams with professional-looking photographs, album covers, posters, and images in a wide range of styles or quality taken by many different cameras often indicate that the Flickr uploader either does not understand or does not care about copyright matters. See Commons:Questionable Flickr images for a list of known bad Flickr users.

Yes I did indeed. In fact, he's seen the Wikipedia page and is delighted. He is also trying to figure out his new camera to provide us with a better quality image of himself sitting in the same position. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 09:34, 5 April 2012 (UTC)

You can review all kind of image licenses on Commons. Please see Commons:License review and Commons:Flickr files if you haven't done so already. We also have a guide how to detect copyright violations. Backlogs include Flickr review, Picasa review, Panoramio review, and files from other sources. You can use one of the following scripts by adding one of the lines to your common.js:

Notification about possible deletion

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Thank You for the Wikipedia Pictures

Hello, My name is Duane Hurst and I recently made a free (non-commercial) English web site to share information with people. I added links to your Wikipedia/Wikimedia freeware picture (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Longji_terrace_-_03.JPG and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Baoting_Li_and_Miao_Autonomous_County_1.jpg and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Haikou_skyline_6_-_2009_09_07.jpg). I also gave credit to you on my web pages for your work. Thank you for sharing with the public. My website is:

http://www.freeenglishsite.com/

I add pictures such as yours to one of the following major sections of my site: 1. World section - contains information and over 10,000 images of every world country and territory. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/world/index.htm

2. USA section - contains information and images of every USA state and territory. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/world/usa/index.htm

3. English section - "Mel and Wes" lessons in conversation format. Stories are located in various USA states and world countries such as China, England, Germany, Japan, Mexico and Thailand. Each lesson has many slang terms and idioms, which I link to my Slang Dictionary. This eventually will have over 5,000 terms. Currently, it has about 3,000 slang and idioms. I regularly add new lessons and slang terms. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/english/lessons/index.htm Slang Dictionary link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/english/slang/Eslang_a.htm

Prior to retirement, I taught English at several private and public universities in the United States.

Please share this free site with your friends. I hope all will enjoy the pictures and find the English information useful. Sincerely,  Duane Hurst in Utah, USA

Where was the marathon?

Hi, Anna - thanks for the map of the bombings in Boston. I asked on File_talk:2013_Boston_Marathon_bombings_map.png if you might add the marathon route, and another asked if you might add a scale. If not, perhaps we can find someone who can. Thanks again! -- Ke4roh (talk) 01:48, 17 April 2013 (UTC)

Good thinking. I'll work on it. Thank you. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 01:54, 17 April 2013 (UTC)

copyright issue

well since i'm the student of that very university, don't I have the right to use it's photo?? and it is just for fair use of educational purpose. why do you guys have to make everything so complicated, it is just a photo. anyways you are the boss n you have the right to delete or ban me whatever.

I'm guessing you're Himynameislax. Hello. Please don't be upset. I'm no boss. I'm just like you. Just an editor. We have to delete the image to protect and respect the original photographer's rights. We would do the same for you. We must also protect the project. If we knowingly use an image owned by someone else, we could be in trouble.
So, please understand that this isn't about being complicated. It's about simple ownership. Why not get out your camera and put something orginal together? Best wishes, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 14:39, 8 May 2013 (UTC)

about copyright

alright..i'm sorry. i'll keep in mind the next time i upload something which violates the copyright. Sorry about everything. Thanks. Have a good day.

H7N9 graph

Hi Anna. I am a public health physician and am writing a short article for our Public Health update regarding the H7N9 influenza situation in China. I love the epi graphs and am wondering when the next update will be. My article is due 5/16 and I'd like to include the most up-to-date information.

Best,

Dr. Sam

Hi Dr. Sam,
We usually update the chart within 24 hrs of an update to the article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Influenza_A_virus_subtype_H7N9. We search for new cases by taking the total cases (currently 131) and update the article by simply googling H7N9 132 at google news. This will return any news item that tells of a new case.
You are welcome to download and use the Excel file for your article. The url is http://s000.tinyupload.com/?file_id=04982395292647063780 which is posted at File:Influenza A virus subtype H7N9 - Total reported cases - 01.png
If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask. Good luck with your article. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 23:07, 13 May 2013 (UTC)

I noticed you cropped a picture of two soldiers practicing bayonet combat into just a head shot of one of them. It doesn't seem to be used anywhere (yet), and I just wondered what you thought it would be helpful in illustrating. Thanks for your work! 63.251.123.2 20:32, 27 June 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Restoration of Zhongshan Road buildings in Bo'ai Road area - 03.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Cowpea not.

Hi Anna, there's a photo in Category:Files by User:Anna Frodesiak that is clearly misidentified, sourced from ipmimages. It is clearly something in the Brassicaceae, but I don't know what genus. Perhaps someone at WP:PLANTS would know, but I wanted to check with you first. The plant being demonstrated appears to be growing among the cowpea, so the misidentification seems to have happened right there on the beach. Sminthopsis84 (talk) 15:18, 27 October 2013 (UTC)

Hi Sminthopsis84. Thanks for catching that. I must have done that while categorizing some Chinese vegetable images. All fixed now. Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 01:21, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
I've asked at WT:PLANTS, so if someone knows those plants well enough it might be possible to move it to where it belongs. Sminthopsis84 (talk) 15:13, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
Okay.

How was this a slip? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 15:28, 28 October 2013 (UTC)

Ah, okay. I get it now. :) Sorry about that. I was reading too quickly and assuming too much. I thought Brassicaceae were vegetables. :) Please change things as you see fit and accept my apologies. I really thought I'd added the Brassicaceae categories. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 15:35, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
Not all Brassicaceae are vegetables, there are ornamentals and many weeds, even some that smell nice rather than like turnips (Hesperis, Alyssum, Lobularia). About this image, perhaps I'm misunderstanding, was it you who brought it here from the source? Did you interact with the originators, or use the image based on what the licence says? I'm just wondering whether to go through the main "contact us" link to suggest that they might want to relabel their copy, or if there's a more friendly way to do that based on past interaction if you've worked with them. Sminthopsis84 (talk) 21:45, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
Hello, my friend. Thank you for filling me in. I really don't know much about plants.
I never interacted with the ipm people. I just grabbed the images and ran. Please feel free to write to them and tell them about the issue. It's a good site, isn't it? Lots and lots of nice pictures. :) Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 02:28, 29 October 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for replying. Yes, it's a wonderful collection of pictures, the number of human hours put into taking them all is hard to imagine. I'll send them a message. Sminthopsis84 (talk) 12:24, 29 October 2013 (UTC)
Splendid. Please let them know that many Wikipedians love them. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 13:15, 29 October 2013 (UTC)

Two misidentified images

Hi Anna,

Invertzoo told me to contact you over renaming of a couple of images. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ophiocomina_nigra.jpg https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ophiocomina_nigra_jaws.jpg These are both actually Amphipholis squamata. They were in use on the Wikipedia page English for Ophiocomina nigra. I've replaced that one, but they are in use in other pages as well. Could you look into it? I'm not much of an editor yet, but have a professional interest in marine invertebrates and take a lot of photographs. I'll be retiring soon and may have more time! BernardP (talk) 10:07, 30 November 2013 (UTC)

Done. I renamed the files and created a category (Category:Amphiuridae). I also stubbed the species and Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amphipholis_squamata). Please feel free to expand that article. Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 01:41, 2 December 2013 (UTC)

You have to place the appropriate template 1 on the file page. Otherwise the bot will never pass this image. --McZusatz (talk) 10:08, 2 March 2014 (UTC)
Thank you very much for letting me know. Noted. I never knew before. I will do it next time. Because of my ignorance, enwp just lost a great pic. Dang! Anna Frodesiak (talk) 01:12, 3 March 2014 (UTC)

Was this a mistake? If not, overwriting files does not make you the copyright holder – please keep that in mind when reviewing licenses …    FDMS  4    15:35, 29 March 2014 (UTC)

And, is User:Viriditas a second account of this one?    FDMS  4    15:38, 29 March 2014 (UTC)

Maybe I've been doing something wrong. I thought the category has nothing to do with copyright status. I include that in files that I want to keep track of. If I don't, and somebody, say, uploads a newer version, it drops from my watchlist. I never meant to imply ownership. Also, I added the author because that is required. Am I not allowed to add that category to files that I don't own? I've added that category to many files that I've uploaded, but, don't own (and occasionally files that have been uploaded at my request. I'm sorry if I've been doing something wrong.
User:Viriditas is a friend and colleague at enwp. I am in China where uploading images is often blocked. He sometimes uploads images for me. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 21:59, 29 March 2014 (UTC)
Hm, I thought about the user category and came to the conclusion that you are allowed to add it to files you overwrite. However, you also changed the license in the diff, which I am sure you are not allowed to do as a non-copyright-holder. I am not sure whether I understood you correctly, but overwriting does not change anything about any watch status.
It would help if User:Viriditas (the page) said something like

Uploading on behalf of User:Anna Frodesiak

Confirmed. Anna Frodesiak (talk)
. Anyways, great to hear that Chinese people (or rather temporary residents) can access Commons at all. And BTW, I also watch talkpages I contribute to … :)    FDMS  4    23:28, 29 March 2014 (UTC)
We're talking about Pig blood jelly, right? Viriditas didn't help with that. User:Howicus did. In the major diff, I didn't change the license -- I added one. I didn't change the author -- I added a link for it. During the same edit, I added the category. Should I have separated the edits? Did I do something wrong. Please accept my apologies if I did. Please let me know.
By the way, I am Canadian, but live in permanently in China. Best wishes, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 23:51, 29 March 2014 (UTC)
Here is the link to my enwp talk. Viritidas uploaded those. I own those images. Cheers, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 23:56, 29 March 2014 (UTC)
Yes, we are talking about two different things. In my eyes, adding a license means changing the license, at least changing the license status – why did you do that in the first place? [end of 1st, beginning of 2nd] I believed you telling me Viriditas had the authority to upload these files, but if he uploaded a higher number of files on a regular basis I thought it might be a good idea to mention that on his userpage to avoid confusion.    FDMS  4
Adding a license means changing the license? Why did I do that in the first place? There was no license. Howicus uploaded it without adding the license, so I added it. That was necessary, correct? Should I not have added the license. And if a license is wrong, should I not change it? About Viriditas, mention "that" on his commons userpage or talk page or his enwp userpage or talk page? And mention what? That he uploads images for me? Is that really needed? After all, he's a long time editor and in each case, I've come along and modified the license or something else to show that I know about it. Do you think the images may be challenged and deleted? Forgive me if these are stupid questions. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 04:08, 30 March 2014 (UTC)
Before, the picture was tagged with CC BY-SA 2.0, the same license the uploader used on Flickr (Special:Permalink/119998929). You added CC BY 2.5 in the diff, although Flickr only allows CC 2.0 licenses (Special:Permalink/120001428). I thought about mentioning the Uploading on behalf of […] from above on his Commons userpage, but this is definitely not needed. The files might unlikely but still possibly get challenged (probably by an inattentive or rather new user as no permission), but I cannot imagine deleted. Have a nice evening,    FDMS  4    11:21, 30 March 2014 (UTC)
Wow, that's a new one for me. I didn't see that the original upload had a 2.0. It's so strange that the diff didn't show the replacement of that, but rather showed the addition of the 2.5. My apologies.
As for the notification that their is a mismatch between uploader/owner/category, perhaps I could add it to an "| Other_fields =" line as shown at Template:Information. That would be more visible to protect against accidental deletion nomination. Thoughts? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 11:51, 30 March 2014 (UTC)
No problem :) .
Sounds like a good idea to me, if you want and have the time for it you could do that to prevent accidental nominations or confusion. Thanks for your cooperation and of course your contributions to Commons.    FDMS  4    12:18, 30 March 2014 (UTC)
Splendid. Thanks for your patience. I will do that in the future. Oh, and I missed that you wrote above "...overwriting does not change anything about any watch status....". It used to vanish from my gallery list. That is why I made the category. I'm not sure if it still does that. Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 12:23, 30 March 2014 (UTC)

TweetiePie

There's also User:Ndeerdcffffffg. Lupo 12:45, 16 May 2014 (UTC)

Thank you kindly. Any way to block them as obvious duck socks?
I will link to this thread at the SPI next time a sock appears. For the record, it's the above and User:Garrettjopnes507444dfgg who uploaded copyvio screenshots. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 13:08, 16 May 2014 (UTC)
I'm not familiar with this case (or with CU-related blocks in general). I would have to check what policies we have in place, and whether the Commons could simply adopt the en-wiki CU results and block based on that. Better ask one of our checkusers, or bring up the topic at COM:AN. If it's really of any help if they "cycle rapidly through IPv6 addresses" is questionable. I have blocked User:Ndeerdcffffffg. You might want to consider pre-emptively blocking the SUL-linked en-wiki account, even though it doesn't have any contributions yet. Lupo 15:32, 16 May 2014 (UTC)
Thank you. I'll leave it to others to ask at COM:AN. Also, the other user has now been pre-emptively blocked. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 22:22, 17 May 2014 (UTC)
Actually, if you mean Gagxddddd, then no, not yet blocked at enwp. I'm working on that now. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 22:28, 17 May 2014 (UTC)
Oh, I see. No, I meant Ndeerdcffffffg when I wrote that. Gagxddddd didn't exist then. Lupo 22:35, 17 May 2014 (UTC)
Okay. Yes, Ndeerdcffffffg is blocked. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 23:10, 17 May 2014 (UTC)
Also User:Gagxddddd. (Blocked and sole upload deleted: "Person to Bunny" is still in copyright, and so is "Hare Brush".) Lupo 20:33, 17 May 2014 (UTC)
Thank you. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 22:22, 17 May 2014 (UTC)
What's the policy at en-WP for these? Is this guy banned and mustn't edit at all, or do you tolerate constructive edits from him? en:User:Gagxddddd is active... Lupo 22:33, 17 May 2014 (UTC)
Not sure, but I think he's blocked at enwp and not banned at all WMF projects. He should be banned. I think the policy is that it must go through Arbcom. I believe Gagxddddd is a sock and have asked at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Trivialist#Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations.2FTweetiePie1947 to be sure. I will post at the SPI about the banning issue. Cheers, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 23:10, 17 May 2014 (UTC)
I instead posted here. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 23:14, 17 May 2014 (UTC)
Oh, I didn't mean globally banned. Probably overkill anyway, since he seems to be active at en-WP only. Back when I was more active at en-WP, they used to revert/undo edits from banned editors on sight, regardless of their merits. Not sure if this is still done; it was even in the old days never done completely consistently. I don't care which it is. Just wanted to point out that he was active. A WMF-wide "ban" would be more symbolic anyway, I guess, as long as he can create new accounts (which he apparently can). For us, it's just one more boring copyvio uploader -- business as usual; we've got thousands of those. Lupo 23:24, 17 May 2014 (UTC)
Ahh, okay. Well, I guess unwelcome at enwp and commons is fine. If he is discovered as a sock at commons, then that can be used as evidence to block him at enwp and vice versa, right? And yes, when he is spotted at enwp, his edits are reverted on sight and he's blocked. That's procedure. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 23:31, 17 May 2014 (UTC)

Category:Auto-rickshaws in China

Hi, I moved two pictures from Category:Auto-rickshaws in China to Category:Cycle rickshaws because these vehicles were not motorized rickshaws. I propose you to move them toward Category:Cycle rickshaws in China, if you agree. A1AA1A (talk) 07:42, 9 June 2014 (UTC)

Hello there A1AA1A. :) They can be cycled when the battery is dead, but they both have batteries and that is what they normally use to move them about. Maybe two categories? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 22:11, 9 June 2014 (UTC)
Sorry I did not read the description... A1AA1A (talk) 18:36, 10 June 2014 (UTC)

Captain America and puppets

Aloha! I deleted the two (c)vios you tagged by Cap'Americas puppets. Could you please keep me in the loop about the CU on enwiki? I'd like to get rid of all the confirmed puppets on Commons as well. He made such an effort to get blocked, it's only fair to fulfill his wishes I think. :) Hedwig in Washington --07:13, 19 June 2014 (UTC)

Hi there. A bunch were blocked (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/CaptainAmerica12). I'll keep an eye on future edits by those not blocked. Cheers, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 01:55, 20 June 2014 (UTC)

You have banned me for wrong reasons. I wrote this new page free from newzealand and can prove it with my saved documents. I posted this page on August 27 on my own, free from any newzealand involvement. Thus, I request that it be reinstated, as it is in full compliance with wiki guidelines. Savealine

I will respond at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Savealine. You may still use your talk page there. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 18:57, 27 August 2014 (UTC)

Anna, Thank you for your response and for your points of defense. I can see how it seems the way you describe. But, the truth is that while newzealand had edited my page, only after originally being posted by me, I had the page professionally written and reviewed by one of my associates (for neutrality, not for pay), not related to newzealand. I wrote the content and had a friend make sure it was neutral. The only thing newzealand did was edit my page, and only with a very minor edit. This is the fact. I made sure the article was written in a neutral format with help from a third party, and I posted it myself. Newzealand made a minor edit, which should not have been done, given that newzealand is banned. So, after my page was deleted due to newzealand's minor involvement, I started all over again, this time making sure newzealand's edits were not included. Thus, the article is fair, given the facts, as it stands now. So, if you still think that any of my links are self-promoting, though I do not think they are so, since listing the company that publishes my books is itself a true link and source, then please allow the page to be reinstated, and for the links in question to be edited as you think best. Thanks for discussing this and assisting in the best resolution, Savealine

I answered new questions on the savealine talk page. Thanks.

Food images

There's an amazing amount of high-quality food and drink images on Flickr that are Commons-compatible per Commons' licensing requirements. Below is an example, which I added to English Wikipedia's Mussel aticle page, in the "As food" section (in standard size there, of course, rather than the size below). Enjoy the image my friend, unless you're allergic to seafood! Northamerica1000 (talk) 11:26, 9 September 2014 (UTC)

A seafood dish prepared with mussels, roasted cherry tomatoes and croutons
Thank you!! I love mussels. I am also sad to say that flickr is blocked in China now. :( Anna Frodesiak (talk) 00:04, 10 September 2014 (UTC)
I wasn't aware of that (that you like mussels)...no about China. That's the way it goes. Anyway, thanks for being nice, and cheers. Northamerica1000 (talk) 02:27, 10 September 2014 (UTC)

You're welcome. Go to the source page and click on other images, and it takes you to pages describing what's going on, but click on this image and it takes you to an error page; I ended up deciding that they'd removed content that was formerly there. Nyttend (talk) 13:34, 29 October 2014 (UTC)

Ashot Yerkat

Hello Anna. I was wondering if you would be able to assist me in moving the File:Ashot Yerkat.jpeg image, as has been discussed here, here, and here. There have been two votes for renaming it and none against, but both file movers who looked at it wanted to stay neutral and told me to find someone else. So I've randomly chosen to ask you for help out of all 213 file movers. Will you agree to rename this picture? --Steverci (talk) 19:04, 26 November 2014 (UTC)

I'm so sorry. You really need a filemover who knows the subject. Another choice is to try hard to get consensus at the article talk page. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 23:38, 26 November 2014 (UTC)
I did. That was where the 2-0 decision to rename it is, and good reason is given. I don't think any filemover really has any knowledge on the subject. All that's really needed is a filemover to acknowledge users that do decided to make the change and allow it. --Steverci (talk) 23:54, 26 November 2014 (UTC)
But krassotkin thinks that this is not enough for rename the file. I agree. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 00:00, 27 November 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Art Buchwald.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:Art Buchwald.jpg) and the above demanded information in your request.

OTRS permissions queues

Hello Anna Frodesiak. You are receiving this message as a license reviewer. As you know, OTRS processes a large amount of tickets relating to image releases (called "permissions"). As a license reviewer, you may have the skills necessary to contribute to this team. If you are interested in learning more about OTRS or to volunteer please visit Meta-Wiki. Tell your friends! Thank you. Rjd0060 18:29, 1 March 2015 (UTC)

common.js

You apparently went idle after commenting in IRC (my reply was a while later) and so missed what I said.

I was 'rude', and did it anyhow, on the assumption you would not mind (and knowing that js is not your thing).

I edited your common.js, and added VisualFileChange. You can see the documentation at Help:VisualFileChange.js. This is the tool used to create 'bulk' deletion requests, which seems to be a regular concern of yours. Clicking 'perform batch task' from the user's page will give you the ability to select multiple uploads, and nominate them for deletion all at once as a single request.

Hope you don't mind. Revent (talk) 23:28, 17 February 2016 (UTC)

Hello Anna

I hate to bother you again, but Yolandi wants all information removed from wiki, she is not giving wiki permission to permit any likeness of her or any member of the band to be on their site.

Furthermore they are very disappointed that they cant have a nice wiki page like all the other artist in the world.

Is there a legal department that can be contacted to make sure that there can not be any more wiki pages made about the band or its members?

Please give your guidance

I am blocked and banned in English wikipedia. No one wants to help me.

I was banned by community after a proposal by a sock IP. The IP was lying that I was stalking GorillaWarfare. Nobody tried to verify anything from GorillaWarfare.

There were many impersonating socks of User:Undertrialryryr who makes personal attacks against users copy pasting my signature code. Only Vanjagenije knows the tricks of Undertrialryryr.

Then TopGun tried to link me with a previously banned User:Maheshkumaryadav. I am an Indian Bengali but Maheshkumaryadav is a Yadav.

SQL revoked my talk page access yesterday. I don't know whether banned users are ever unblocked. You know how much I worked against spammers and paid editors in Bollywood related articles. At this time, how long shall I wait. Even BASC is disabled. UTRS administrator asked me to email ARBCOM. My email is also blocked in English Wikipedia.

What should I do now?--The Avengers (talk) 04:41, 9 April 2016 (UTC)

Please read and follow the instructions at your enwp talk page. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 05:26, 9 April 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for replying. The first message is a green box by Beeblebrox. He asked me to apply for BASC or UTRS. You know that BASC is disabled and administrator T Paris replied to my UTRS request that I should email Abitration. Now when Beeblebrox gave the message during June 2015, I was indefinitely blocked. But now I am banned by community. This ban was started by a blocked IP. 80% of his ban proposal statement was false.
This is what I am trying to find out....
1-Now how long I will have to wait? Six months, One year ????
2-My talk page access is revoked and email disabled in English Wikipedia. UTRS administrator asked me to appeal to ARBCOM. Now, if after six months/one year I want to apply for unblock, how I will do it with no email access and no talk page access in English wikipedia?
3-When bushranger notified me about the ban. his statement was that "Appeals to this ban may be conducted using the links above" Now , If he was referring to the Green message of Beeblebrox, I can't do it was you know that BASC is impossible and Administrator TParis replied to UTRS request that , I must "appeal to ARBCOM".
P.S. I can never access the CosmicEmperor account(don't remember the password and no access to the registered mail). Thanks --The Avengers (talk) 05:51, 9 April 2016 (UTC)
I suggest you do what TParis said: appeal to ARBCOM. I don't know what email you should use. That's up to you. I don't know what you want from me other than to tell you what you are telling me that TParis told you. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 08:17, 9 April 2016 (UTC)

What a joke! You have a problem with a supermodel with a linkedin ranking. You are being harrassed by a supermodel with NASA and Viacom in their linkedin network? I can ruin your life with one post on linked in and one phone call! I am one of the most powerful women in the world. Also, Kenneth Monroe is a CEO and he is the most influential person in the world and can't get a wikipedia page! What a joke. I blame it on you. Mark Zuckerberg is my client. You're blocking everyone's profiles and you know nothing about writing! You just offended many influential people! Leave it to the loser at wikipedia to say they are being abused and get a multi million dollar lawsuit. Learn to write!

Hello Anna, about File:Unofficial seal of Haikou.svg, I have some available evidence to you, and hope you can reply comments. Sorry again, my poor English.

I find only one photo of City emblem of Haikou, [3], sadly that is in a Hainan Province Forum, but I check a official website call History record of Hainan[4], no photo of Seal of Haikou, but it have description of Seal of Haikou:

"Haikou city emblem "Dragon flying of coconut" is oval shape, and the left and right sides has two dragons up into the sky, that mean Dragon is tradition of city of Haikou ; the ring in center for the sunshine of the city, main Haikou Sea is Pearl of South China ; also sea, sail, reflecting the tropical scenery of the coastal city features, center stands the coconut trees, highlighting the characteristics of the city. Next website is Hainan Daily,[5], online version of Hainan Daily, also no photo, but it have records of City emblem of Haikou: "April 10, 1993, Haikou Municipal People's Government announced that after more than a year collection of selection, Municipal People's Congress Standing Committee approved, Haikou City emblem "Dragon flying of coconut" is born. So, what do you think?--Iflwlou (talk) 16:00, 29 May 2017 (UTC)

Interesting indeed, Iflwlou. You may have something there. I've asked a Wikipedia colleague to come here and comment. The thing is, why on Earth is this never seen in Haikou? Odd. Best wishes, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 00:31, 30 May 2017 (UTC)
My two RMBs worth: I too never saw this emblem in the nearly ten years I lived in Haikou. I suspect that when the Hainan International Tourism Island thing started in the 2000s, this "seal" was quietly dropped on account of its extreme naffness. The dragon thing is plausible, West and East Lake were formed when dragon eggs beneath them hatched and the baby dragons flew up to the sky, as dragons do (honest!). Cheers Philg88 (talk) 05:12, 30 May 2017 (UTC)
All of city emblem problem because of this 中共中央办公厅、国务院办公厅关于禁止自行制作和使用地方旗、徽的通知(CPC Central Committee and State Council notice prohibiting the production and use their own local flag and emblem). This is not a law but a notice by CPC Central Committee, so all the city will hide the existing emblem, but this is not the law, which led to embarrassing situation, each city has its own practice, some direct legislation to abolish the city emblem, never use again. Some do not legislate to abolish the city emblem, but the city emblem hidden within the public eye. Some even legislation to abolish the city emblem, but still as usual use, like Najing City[6]. So someone who live in Haikou but never seen the city emblem, that is normal.--Iflwlou (talk) 14:17, 30 May 2017 (UTC)
Okay, Iflwlou, so if it is official, and I'm starting to think that it is, what should we do with the image? Put it into Wikipedia articles? I suggest we do not. That implies that the city displays it. It does not. So, how about we just add a detailed description with the sources to the commons image description field and leave it at that? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 23:16, 30 May 2017 (UTC)
Although it has been hidden by the government, but I did not find a law said that is repealed (I find it been whole year), which means it is still Haikou's official city emblem, I can't see any reason can't use the pictures in the city of Haikou entry, later I will write a Wikipedia entry about Haikou's city emblem.--Iflwlou (talk) 17:18, 31 May 2017 (UTC)
Hi Iflwlou. Why would you want it in articles? To show that it represents Haikou? It certainly does not. Its presence in articles would imply that and be misleading. If you wish to add it to a section within the article with an explanation about how it is official but not used, that would be fine. However, if you think it would be appropriate in infoboxes or elsewhere without a caveat, that would be highly inappropriate, in my view. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 22:38, 31 May 2017 (UTC)
I agree add it to a section within the article with an explanation about how it is official but not used, but can you explain why its presence in articles would imply that and be misleading?--Iflwlou (talk) 06:02, 1 June 2017 (UTC)
Hi Iflwlou. I think that if it is in articles without explanation, those viewing it would think it is used, simple as that. That is what I said above. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 06:08, 1 June 2017 (UTC)
Why I want it in articles, because it is fact, be hided, I dig it, that simple, not for use it represents Haikou, just want people to see the real history but not miss something. So I think we have consensus about File:Unofficial seal of Haikou.svg, maybe it can change the name to File:City emblem of Haikou.svg.--Iflwlou (talk) 06:21, 1 June 2017 (UTC)
Hi Iflwlou. Again, fine in articles, but with a caveat. How do you want to put it in articles? Infobox with caption "Official emblem" or in a section with an explanation that it is official but never used? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 06:23, 1 June 2017 (UTC)
That is what I said above, 中共中央办公厅、国务院办公厅关于禁止自行制作和使用地方旗、徽的通知, and this website [7][8]explain why official city emblem canot in use on public sight, and city emblem of Haikou have in use for a short while, so why it some be made souvenirs [9].--Iflwlou (talk) 06:47, 1 June 2017 (UTC)
We are having two different conversations here. Again, fine in articles, but with a caveat. How do you want to put it in articles? Infobox with caption "Official emblem" or in a section with an explanation that it is official but never used? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 06:51, 1 June 2017 (UTC)
Caption it "Official emblem" I think it's too simple to describe, I will say "Before the notice (1993-1997), city emblem of Haikou is beyond doubt, but after the notice, although the city emblem has not been abolished, but not in use on public."--Iflwlou (talk) 16:43, 1 June 2017 (UTC)
How about "...The official emblem from 1993 to 1997. Although it remains "official", it is no longer in use..." Hmmmmm, that's not very good. I like yours better. Let's ask Philg88 for his suggestion. So, Phil, what do you think? Is there evidence enough to say this is technically official? Would you agree with no infobox usage, but body of text with a statement about how it is no longer in use? Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 20:45, 1 June 2017 (UTC)
IMHO, no way should this feature in any articles related to Haikou, especially in infoboxes - at best it would be misleading - whatever the "official" Chinese policy on such emblems. By all means categorise it on Commons as media related to Haikou, but that's as far as I think it should go. Philg88 (talk) 21:35, 1 June 2017 (UTC)
I think I agree here. I mean, how extensively was it ever used? It looks like a poorly done design that was a bad idea and used on someone's door for a while. I highly doubt it was ever on letterhead or used officially anywhere of significance. It is just not notable or mentionworthy. I'd be very happy to see it never used. Once in articles, it gains notability. It has none of that on its own other than its rather pathetic "official" status. Yes, let's leave it out of all articles forever. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 21:43, 1 June 2017 (UTC)
Sadly those China's city emblem all are pathetic, originally I wanted to make a list of Chinese city emblem. I chose this rare city emblem first, but I stuck here. Fortunately, things are going well now. If everyone agrees, I'll change the name of the picture.--Iflwlou (talk) 17:32, 2 June 2017 (UTC)
A list of Chinese city emblems would likely end up incomplete. I would abandon the project. As for the name of the Haikou emblem, why bother to change it? If you do that, then you and I will have to keep checking to see if somebody puts it into infoboxes. Leaving the name how it is now ensures that will not happen. That is a good reason to leave the name. I s there a good reason to change it other than "because it is technically official"? Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 23:41, 2 June 2017 (UTC)
Because it is official, in fact, true name by the law is "City emblem of Haikou", sources are using accepted names, that is good reason, what ever "technically", that is not a "Unofficial seal", never seen this name in any sources. We are not CPC, the legitimacy of a city emblem is by the law, not from the party notice, right?--Iflwlou (talk) 17:10, 3 June 2017 (UTC)
We've had a lot of discussion over using this image...a lot. Fine. I'll chance the name and modify the description. I hope we can close this case now. Best wishes and happy editing. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 23:39, 3 June 2017 (UTC)
By the way, I'd appreciate if you'd watch the file from time to time. If it is being used, please remove it from the article. If I notice it being used, I will move it back to "unofficial" immediately. I only moved it to "official" to end this discussion. The reason to move it was small and trivial. The reason to keep it "Unofficial" was big. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 23:59, 3 June 2017 (UTC)
If I wrong interpretation of what you mean, than I sorry about that. When I upload this city emblem, I use this because this is official one. If I being used that will move it back to "unofficial", I don't think that is reasonable to me, I have already found whole year to provided the source for your request, hope to get your understanding, and I don't quite agree with your "unofficial" statement. If it can't be used normally at last, I don't think this is end of discussion. Best wishes and happy editing.--Iflwlou (talk) 16:23, 4 June 2017 (UTC)
I am sorry. I did not mean to be rude. I know you are trying to help.
There are two issues, and these are my positions:
1. The emblem is offical. It is never used offically. It should never be used in articles because that would be imply that it is used officially.
2. It is now called File:Official seal of Haikou.svg because it is offical and you wanted that name. There is now a risk that people use the image in article. We must waste time watching to be sure it is not used. If it is, we should change it back to File:Unofficial seal of Haikou.svg.
If you disagree with the above, please say. But this and this is a lot of discussion over this.
Best wishes, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 23:10, 4 June 2017 (UTC)
1. Wrong, this emblem use in 1993-1997 is beyond doubt[10], not as you said never used offically. Even after 1997, in offical source[11], also called this "City Emblem of Haikou", not "Unofficial seal of Haikou". If you want to prove that is unofficial, you must show the source to prove it.
2. "City Emblem of Haikou"'s name not what I want but the name is by legitimate, by official, by record, by Hainan province forum[12] to prove too. "Unofficial seal of Haikou" just you wanted that name, but I never seen in any source. This emblem is in use or not, not your personal view of the final say.--Iflwlou (talk) 10:38, 5 June 2017 (UTC)
Hi Wikicology, and thank you! :) Fine with me. We can call it File:Picture of a rabbit eating a carrot.jpg. I do not care anymore. I care that it is not in Wikipedia articles. If it is put there, I will start a discussion to get it removed. If I see it in other language Wikipedia articles, I may do the same. This ugly emblem was used for 4 years only. It is just not worth being in articles, especially without explanation of how it was only used for a short time.
Now, can we please settle this? Iflwlou, please tell us: Do you want this to be in articles? If not, why care about the name. If so, please say, and say how you would like to present it? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 13:06, 5 June 2017 (UTC)
I completely agree with you, Anna. I would get it removed as well in my language Wikipedia if inserted in articles there. Regards. Wikicology (talk) 20:05, 5 June 2017 (UTC)
Hi Wikicology, are you really understand our discussion? I agains your offer. And Anna you are avoid my request the source of which point this is "unofficia""This ugly emblem was used for 4 years only". And the two questions that have independent with the subject, I also answer you, 1. yes, when I upload the picture to wikimedia, I want to use in wikipedia. 2.If you don't care about the name, why care about me remove file the name to "City Emblem of Haikou", and said "If I notice it being used, I will move it back to "unofficial" immediately." So yes, I don't care it is beautiful or ugly, I care the my upload file use in wrong name.--Iflwlou (talk) 15:43, 5 June 2017 (UTC)
Well, there is nothing to add again. I encourage you to follow Anna's advise. Regards. Wikicology (talk) 20:05, 5 June 2017 (UTC)
You know my position. I still do not know what exactly you want. You never really say. To help end this: What outcome do you want? What do you want to happen? I am busy at English Wikipedia and busy at commons. Please, let's conclude this. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 22:27, 5 June 2017 (UTC)

Re:Why I am concerned about your images

Well, I has a litte bit upset, but not because of you, because I fight for long time have no results. You are a good editor too, although you are some style, I do not appreciate, I guess you have the same thought of me.

1. Because this sources is only sources I can found, and the blogs is maintained by Catholic priests.

2. Some colour is told by pattern provider, some reference by this.

3. How can I explain to you the concept of Heraldry in my pitifu English, no. I learning Heraldry from User:SajoR, you can ask him, if his say I make mistakes, so I make mistakes.--Iflwlou (talk) 14:55, 8 June 2017 (UTC)

Iflwlou: Your English is really very good, my friend. I am so sorry about all of this.
A blog is a blog. It is not a good source.
I am finished about the Catholic emblem problem. I will leave that now.
The Haikou emblem problem continues. I hope it is not in articles in the future.
Best wishes,
