Curiosities of Locomotive Design[edit]

Hi, bad news: the article "A curiosities locomotive" was deleted at the Czech Wikipedia. Justification administrators: article is not encyclopedic, is simply a list of articles, article contains its own research. Want to write such an article on your Encyclopedia? Gantry cranes[edit]

I just got an email from a man in Finland (I imagine he'd rather not have his name or email posted, but let me know if you'd like the whole thing forwarded, and you could even write to him) who designs cranes and who happens to be the designer of some rail cranes in Seattle that I photographed:

He writes (I'm copying the imperfect English verbatim), "Those are not Overhead crane. Those are RMG (rail mounted gantry grane) cranes. Difference between overhead and gantry is quite simple. If crane has moving legs it's gantry. These BNSF cranes has moving legs, one fixed and one hinged. So those are gantry cranes. Overhead cranes are mostly used inside of factory buildings. But of course there are some exeptions."

I presume he knows whereof he speaks. I certainly don't have much of a clue on this terminology. Anyway, rather than me editing descriptions on these particular images, I thought I'd grab you since you have written some of the category descriptions. This may have implications for how the categories fit together as well as for the descriptions. So I'm leaving it alone for the moment, in hopes that you can sort out both the description & the categories better than I would. - Jmabel ! talk 20:26, 28 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You can't imagine how unhappy, and to be honest, how angry your innocent message makes me feel. 8-( Sorry, but I no longer do edits to cranes. Especially not to "fix" their categorizations. Try user_talk:Ingolfson, he's the expert on categorizing. Andy Dingley (talk) 20:35, 28 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
