Thanks for uploading File:Roman Atwood Networth Profile Picture.png. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Roman Atwood Networth Profile Picture.png]]) and the above demanded information in your request.

File:Martha Wayles Skelton Jefferson.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Cecilia Bowes-Lyon, Countess of Strathmore and Kinghorne.png, was missing information about where it comes from or who created it, which is needed to verify its copyright status. The file probably has been deleted. If you've got all required information, request undeletion providing this information and the link to the concerned file ([[:File:Cecilia Bowes-Lyon, Countess of Strathmore and Kinghorne.png]]).

If you created the content yourself, enter {{Own}} as the source. If you did not add a licensing template, you must add one. You may use, for example, {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} or {{Cc-zero}} to release certain rights to your work.

If someone else created the content, or if it is based on someone else's work, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Thanks for uploading File:Ruth Roche, Baroness Fermoy.png. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Please stop uploading copyrighted images. Users who persistently upload copyrighted images, despite multiple warnings, may be blocked from editing. DrKay (talk) 07:11, 17 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The image is 50 years old. The artist has died. Isn't that fair use? Public domain? Is that not why the "PD-old-50" exists? Also, I recall being able to remove deletion requests if replaced with a valid source. If the sources aren't valid, or if by mistake the image is a copyright violation, then it's a mistake. It happens. -- AlexanderHovanec (talk) 07:20, 17 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Copyright in the UK continues for 70 years after the creator's death. PD-old-50 is for countries where the copyright expires 50 year after the creator's death. You can replace "no source determined" with the source; that is not the same as a notice of a deletion discussion or a disputed copyright notice. They should be left for a third editor to determine. DrKay (talk) 08:14, 17 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Terribly sorry! So it varies from country to country. The UK and US have different policies. Got it. From now on, I'll be sure to abide by those principles. -- AlexanderHovanec (talk) 19:05, 17 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Pay attention to copyright
File:Girl voltuneering.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

File:Girl voltuneering.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not.

Thank you!

Making edits from an IP is not considered best practice either. If you disagree with the rationales for deletions, feel free to comment in the discussion page. If an image has a "no permissions" tag, then there's a convenient "Convert to DR" button that lets you start a discussion. Ytoyoda (talk) 23:54, 21 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You're absolutely correct, and it should be deleted ASAP. I already made the correct edits on the actual Wikipedia articles, so the only thing that needs to be done now is this incorrectly identified image's deletion. -- AlexanderHovanec (talk) 01:55, 22 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Low-resolution images[edit]

Hi, I see that you've uploaded many photographs in low resolution and added them to Wikipedia articles. Would it be possible for you to upload the full-size original photos? The images would be automatically scaled down when you use "[[File:Example.jpg|thumb|caption]]" syntax, then readers can click the images to zoom in. The original photos would also help to avoid any suspicion that they're not your own work. Guanaco (talk) 21:17, 22 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

To piggyback this comment, you should upload the original JPEG files instead of converting them into PNGs (or worse, taking screenshots). PNGs take longer to load and you lose sharpness when you convert. Also, please provide more useful source information, like the date and location and keeping the camera metadata is helpful. Hello AlexanderHovanec.

You have uploaded one or more files that are copyright violations. You have done so despite requests from editors not to do so, and despite their instructions. See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules by subject matter useful.

This is your last warning. The next time you upload a file that violates copyright, you will be blocked. Please leave me a message if you have further questions.

Guanaco (talk) 01:15, 4 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Also, if you’re uploading your friends’ social media photos and claiming them as yours, then it’s a problem. A few things need to happen:
  1. Please go back and credit the photographers on the images that you’ve credited yourself.
  2. Add a link back to where they were originally posted. If the photos are not available to the public, then ask your friends to change the privacy setting. If they were okay with licensing their photos for any (including commmercial) use, then they must be okay with the photos being viewable by anyone.
  3. Your friends must verify permission either by sending a permission email to the OTRS board or add a comment saying something like “I consent to sharing this photo under a CC-BY-2.0 license.”
If the license information you provided cannot be verified, then they will be deleted. Ytoyoda (talk) 02:23, 4 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Well, pretty much all of their photos have since then been deleted. The photos I'm referencing have been obtained via websites that uploaded photos of them, which I wasn't aware of until they were removed. But if there's ever a time when they've taken a photo that they give me permission to use on Wikipedia, I'll be sure to follow the steps. I've also uploaded photos I've taken personally which I assume don't need to be credited to them if I took them myself. -- AlexanderHovanec (talk) 02:26, 4 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies for the late response. You are correct—if you've taken the photographs yourself, {{Own}} would be enough. Though it would be helpful if you uploaded the original photos from the camera at full resolution. You can read more about why here. Plus the EXIF data (the information about what camera you used, the time and date of the photo, etc) would help verify that the photo is indeed yours. And try to provide as much information about the photograph as you can (without violating anyone's privacy, of course) about the date, location etc. Thanks. Hi, File:Shayne Topp.jpg is marked for deletion because it has, as you yourself pointed out, an Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 2.0 Generic (CC BY-NC-ND 2.0) license. Unfortunately, images marked Non-Commercial and/or Non-Derivative are not allowed on Commons because the license is too restrictive. An image uploaded to Commons must be licensed for all uses, including commercial and derivative (and see what happens when you try to assign the {{Cc-by-nc-nd-2.0}} license to an image). When you do an image search on Flickr, make sure you set the filter to show images that allow commercial and derivative use. Also, Flinfo is a great resource for uploading images from Flickr to Commons. Ytoyoda (talk) 01:52, 4 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Awww. That's a bummer. But I see now. No wonder some images keep getting marked as copyvios. I see. I used to do filter it out via the third option, but started selecting the second as there's more images under that one. From now on I'll be sure to make sure a photo can be used commercially. -- AlexanderHovanec (talk) 02:15, 4 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

User:Ww2censor's image removals: Part 2[edit]

It's a shame bots tend to do this. The images were clearly free licensed. When you select the "commercial use allowed" option on Flickr, a plethora of perfectly useble images are shown. However, Wikipedia doesn't seem to accept a certain type of license, even though it permits an image's use... -- AlexanderHovanec (talk) 15:13, 16 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure I understand your post but we do not accept non-commercial or non-derivative use restricted images because "commercial use allowed" is not enough if there is another restriction. The only images we accept are ones that can be used by anyone for anything, commercial or derivative restricted images do not allow that. Actually the images that were deleted were unfree images and the first version of File:Calum Worthy.jpg was not freely licensed but the latest one is. The best way to avoid this situation in future is to use the Flickr2Commons tool found at http://tools.wmflabs.org/flickr2commons/ that checks to see if the image is freely licensed and then transfers it using all the appropriate details so avoiding issues like you have been having. Another possibility is to search by the acceptable licenses on Flickr at https://www.flickr.com/creativecommons and selecting from the acceptable licenses: Attribution License or Attribution-ShareAlike License that between them have about 120 million images. However, Flickr license tags are not perfect because sometimes Flickr users lie and give images a free license that they have not rights over, having stolen them from elsewhere. Obviously you know you have received several notices about image problems and most of the deleted images were for the issues mentioned, so anything you can do to avoid that is good but if you are in doubt or you have any questions about any image, just ask. Good luck. Ww2censor (talk) 16:08, 16 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
How ignorant of me. I actually thought you were a bot, because I've seen you in many places so I thought you were an automated account... okay, so you're an actual user. Thanks for providing some tools. The next time I feel the need to upload an image, I'll run it through to see how Wikipedia will comprehend it. Also, thanks for clarifying my latest file. It possessed the exact same license as some of the images that were deleted, so I assumed it'd be taken down. I'll use the information you've provided, thanks. -- AlexanderHovanec (talk) 16:44, 16 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The five images that had been deleted (not because of anything commercial but because of "something else" as you say) -- would you mind telling me what restrictions they contained that Wikipedia does not accept? I clicked the Flickr license and it seemed like any use was allowed. What caused their deletion? -- AlexanderHovanec (talk) 16:45, 16 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Pay attention to copyright
Wikimedia Commons does not accept fair use content.

We do this because Commons is a shared media repository. Downstream wikis have different policies based on local laws. Uses that are acceptable under US law, for example, may not be acceptable in many other countries with more restrictive rules.

In addition, fair use is not compatible with our aim as a collection of freely distributable media files.

Therefore, Commons cannot legally rely on fair use provisions.

Non-free content that may be used with reference to fair use may be uploaded locally if your project allows this.

File:Josh Dun.png has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not.

Thank you!

Sorry about that Walter. Someone else on the Wikipedia must've posted the image as their own because I got the image from Wikimedia Commons, cropped it, and specified the details in the description. Didn't intend for copyright or anything. -- AlexanderHovanec (talk) 07:44, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Guanaco (talk) 22:44, 22 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, sir[edit]

This account was created solely for the purpose of asking something of you. You recently blocked an account of mine for three months -- AlexanderHovanec -- on grounds that it's a "sock master". I won't argue with your decision. But can you leave my Commons account's data out of this, please? Contrary to what you may think, all of the photos are in fact mine; most of which were taken by me, as can be seen by the linked Flickr account and a great deal were given with permission at the expense of a "personality warning" being placed on the photo. I don't know how else I can prove it to you, but please don't remove any of the photographs because you think they're not mine. I can prove all of them to be mine, whatever the method may be. They're low-quality because I never used Commons that much, and only uploaded a few photos from time to time. All of them were uploaded awhile ago -- nothing recent. Meaning if I were to never have been blocked in the first place and decided to upload photos to Commons, it'd be on grounds that comply with Wikipedia's policies -- my actions would've been improved from now and onwards. So the photos would be of higher quality, etc. So once again, I ask you to repeal the deletion nominations. I won't try and upload any more pictures during the three months ban you've placed on me -- or even remotely after the ban is up, considering I'm considered a "sock" at the moment. I thought it was the coolest concept that I could contribute my own photography to Wikipedia articles, and I'd still like some of my past contributions (back when I wasn't thought of as a "sock") to remain. They don't do any harm and they're entirely relevant to their designated articles. I'll clarify, can my photos be left alone? I promise not to use the "AlexanderHovanec" account, or upload photos under a sock account. I'm done here. I'd just like my past contributions to remain in harmony. Thanks a ton. -- Can I ask something of you (talk) 23:12, 22 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, yes. I see Ferret asked you to do this. I respect his reasoning. He sees that I might've used a few accounts to edit and would like my photos to be removed. But in reality, I don't believe my photos to be doing any harm. But contrary to his reasoning, you thought they were either too low-quality or copyrighted. Please do not worry, the photos are indeed mine. I think the only problem here would be convincing you to look past Ferret's request, or at least explain to him my perspective. Unless you agree with him... then that's my loss. Oh, and as for the "past warnings", I'd also like to note that I've complied. And like I said, I don't use Commons (like, at all) anymore, but if I were to, they'd abide by all of the "violations" from the past and would be improved pictures. -- Can I ask something of you (talk) 23:18, 22 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I'm replying here, because you can edit this page and talk using your main account. I'm willing to help you keep the images and also unblock you. However there's a problem. Less than an hour before you asked me to preserve your images, a sockpuppet inserted one of them into a Wikipedia article. If you're using Commons to abuse other wikis, I don't want you or your work here.
If you agree to stop using alternate accounts on either wiki, I will help you. Guanaco (talk) 05:25, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Guanaco: As info, we've blocked 3 more socks from the last 24 hours in addition to the one you noticed. Ferret (talk) 15:13, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Guanaco: I made a new account to ask something of you on your talk page because sometimes I know your talk page access can be revoked and for whatever reason I thought my main account couldn’t edit on my talk page.
But yeah, it’s a deal. I don’t intend to do anything else sock-related using a wiki with my images.
All of their submissions to Wikipedia articles was during a time in which I was thriving as an editor with zero blocks and, like, 4,000 edits; however, now I guess I’m at a point where any new images I submit to an articles would be considered socking, meaning I’ve gotta end that behavior. And I will.
On Wikipedia, the “other wiki”, the only harm you’ll have seen me cause would be the lack of sourcing articles (which I tried to better myself with) and sock puppeting (as I originally disagreed with the lack-of-source-temp-ban, and is what caused my perm ban). I only mention this because I’d like to reinstate that I’m not trying to jeopardize or vandalism Wikipedia in any way.
I admit, I was unhappy with past images being removed from articles, so just recently (an hour before asking you for help) I tried re-adding what the user ferret had removed. The paddle boarding image? I assume this is the “problem” you addressed… but I understand your message.
If you can help me out I’ll do whatever you want. No harm or abuse is ever intended. I agree to stop using alternate accounts. Thanks for your willingness. -- AlexanderHovanec (talk) 15:16, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Guanaco: Oh yes, and it looks like Ferret made it here as well. He has a point indeed. What he's referring to are the other images you noticed, Guanaco, being re-added to Wikipedia in the past 24 hours (from before asking of your assistance).
I actually meant to reply to you before he left a message but didn't have accessibility to a device, so the message was pre-typed. But like I said, I don't want any trouble for Wikipedia. So I'll stop Guanaco. -- AlexanderHovanec (talk) 15:19, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Your talk page access is not revoked here or at enwiki. Please, stop. I don't know how else to explain to you that socking, for any reason, however justified you feel it is, is not allowed. The disruptive edit notes and attempts to pretend to be others just makes it worse. Go read your talk page on enwiki, click on the link about Standard Offer, and wait it out. -- ferret (talk) 15:24, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I was just notified of the recent edit on my talk page on "enwiki". I saw what it said there, but did not know my talk page's access wasn't revoked. It was for awhile but I didn't know I had access again. -- AlexanderHovanec (talk) 15:27, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Preserving the images[edit]

Since there is some reasonable doubt about the copyright status of your image uploads, it would be best if we verify them via OTRS. Please send an email to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org and include a release as described at Commons:Email templates/Consent. If you list all of the images which are your own work in a single email, the process will be quicker and smoother. Once you've sent the email, you'll receive a ticket number in an automated reply. Post that number here for reference. Guanaco (talk) 19:55, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I understand the skepticism given that some of my past photos were marked for copyright (i.e. Raini Rodriguez) -- but many of these were just celebrity photos of which I thought were free for use given their status on Flickr. Any who, I used the "relgen" at "https://tools.wmflabs.org/relgen/index.php". The ticket number I received was ticket:2018042310014366. Hopefully, this proves my authorship over them. Thanks for the help. -- AlexanderHovanec (talk) 20:36, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Dang it, I just sent an entire ticket with file names that don't even link anywhere. I forgot the ".jgp" 's and ".png" 's. I've gotta reattempt the email once more. -- AlexanderHovanec (talk) 20:39, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Ticket number for image preservation[edit]

@Guanaco: Alright, it took awhile, but I was able to get a ticket number. ticket:2018042310014553 -- AlexanderHovanec (talk) 20:53, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Unblock[edit]

I have unblocked your account, on the condition that you do not use sockpuppets to add your files to any Wikimedia project. I hope you decide to continue contributing here, as some of your images are valuable. If you upload more images, I recommend uploading the original files from your camera, to give the highest resolution and preserve important metadata. Guanaco (talk) 06:30, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

'Can't thank you enough Guanaco. In the future, if I decide to upload to Wikimedia, they'll be directly from my phone or Nikon so there's no dispute over the validity. They'll be clear, concise, and under one account. They'll also be slightly more relevant. For example, I'll be visiting a string of museums so adding George Washington or Alexander Hamilton related images should be beneficial. Thanks again. -- AlexanderHovanec (talk) 14:52, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Like I said, I'm done socking. I see the images are still nominated but I'm not in any rush for the banner to be removed. Just a note. Thanks. -- AlexanderHovanec (talk) 14:54, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Guanaco: My only other concern would be the removal of photos that have already been placed in articles. For example, on enwiki's Shih-poo article, I had a photograph analyzing the genes of Shih-tzu and Poodle traits in the dog breed. A user named "Ohnoitsjamie", who has voted to remove the photographs from Commons, has deleted them from Wikipedia on grounds of being "low quality", when you cannot even tell its a low quality photograph. I'd say he's only removing the photo because he's against its existence on Commons. Would you have any recommendations for a scenario like this? I'd revert his removal of the image but I know reverting administrators can lead to trouble. Thanks. -- AlexanderHovanec (talk) 18:48, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You're still blocked on English Wikipedia, as each project has its own separate admins, policies, and blocks. I'm only able to help you here. I would avoid English Wikipedia for now, because it's potentially a huge source of frustration when you're not allowed to edit. You'll have to wait for the standard offer. Once you are unblocked from Wikipedia, I strongly recommend using the article talk pages to discuss disputed changes such as this. Ask why it was reverted and how it is low quality, and give other users a chance to respond before you revert. Ultimately editorial decisions should be made by consensus rather than aggressive reversion.
On Commons, we have the quality images and valued images awards. Develop your photography skills, upload and nominate your best work. The awards can be a source of recognition, and they also indicate to others that an image may be well-suited to Wikipedia. Guanaco (talk) 21:23, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah that's a good point. Perhaps I should ignore the reversions all together, or potentially discuss it with the reverters. Like I said, I plan on taking been photographs for the Commons, so gaining recogntion as you said seems to be the best option right now. -- AlexanderHovanec (talk) 03:11, 27 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
