Tip: Categorizing images[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]][[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

WLM CH (Deutsch) Liebe/r Teilnehmer/in des Wettbewerbs Wiki Loves Monuments CH 2013, Die Ausgabe 2014 des Wettbewerbs Wiki Loves Monuments hat Montag 8 September begonnen. Dieses Jahr fokussiert sich der Schweizer Wettbewerb auf die Region der Alpen. Die vergangenen Wettbewerbe haben ermöglicht, dass mehrere tausend Fotos von Schweizer Denkmälern gesammelt werden konnten. Dank euch hat es auf Wikimedia Commons Bilder von zahlreichen Denkmälern. Jedoch haben wir festgestellt, dass die Denkmäler, welche sich in den alpinen Regionen befinden, dabei nur sehr gering vertreten sind. Aus diesem Grund fokussiert sich der diesjährige Wettbewerb spezifisch auf die Alpen, um auch diesen Lebensraum auf Wikimedia Commons besser dokumentiert vorzufinden. Denkt daran: Hochgeladen werden können die Bilder vom 8.September bis und mit dem 8.Oktober 2014. Um am Wettbewerb teilzunehmen, könnt ihr jedoch auch Bilder hochladen, die ihr zu einem beliebigen Zeitpunkt gemacht habt. Die Fotos müssen nicht während der Wettbewerbszeit entstanden sein. Wikimedia CH organisiert mehrere Wikiexpeditions während dieser Wettbewerbs-Zeit, um Fotos von Denkmälern zu machen, die nur sehr spärlich auf Commons dokumentiert sind. Wiki Science Competition 2021 in Switzerland[edit]
Dear uploader of Wiki Loves Earth in Switzerland and Wiki Loves Monuments in Switzerland, we would like to remind you that Wiki Science Competition 2021 has started in the whole world. It is now open in your country until December, 15th.
If you want to take part in WSC2021, please consult this page. There are different categories that can be used (you might therefore have something already interesting in your archive). Prizes can be allocated for the 1st and 2nd positions in every category.
If you are an expert user, we remind you that the images uploaded within the deadline can be included in any case in their national category even if not uploaded with the main interface by simply adding the national category.
If you take part, please consider improving the description in English of your files, since such description is what the international jury will use to evaluate them at the following step. World finalists will be finalized after March 2022.

- Monsieur, bonjour,
- J'ai pensais que nous pouvions mettre des documents en provenance du Web, en indiquant la source. Cela n'étant pas possible j'ai demandé une photo officielle libre de droit à la compagnie ferroviaire Gornergratbahn. J'ai donc reçu une photo du service de communication de la compagnie par son responsable M. Oliver Bumann. Je vais donc ls mettre sur Wikimedia Commons en espérant que cela vous convient mieux. Merci de me signaler s'il manque une information.

Wiki Loves Folklore 2024 has started, Join us![edit]
Hello Albins,
Greetings from the Wiki Loves Folklore International Team! Wiki Loves Folklore is an international photography contest hosted on Wikimedia Commons to document folklore and intangible cultural heritage from around the world, such as folk festivals, folk dances, folk music, folk activities, folk games, folk cuisine, folk wear, folktales, folk games, folk religion, mythology, and many more.
The campaign invites participants to document photographs, videos, and audios linked to folk culture and fit within the contest's theme. Through this campaign, you may become a part of a community dedicated to preserving our intangible culture, which has been brought and passed down for thousands of years.
How can I Contribute?
The dates for the submission in the photography contest on Wikimedia Commons are from 1 February 2024 through 31 March 2024. Probably you are wondering how you can take part. It’s simple: grab a camera, record an image, video or audio under the folklore theme and start uploading or Click on Upload Now Icon which is available on right side of Wiki Loves Folklore 2024. - 1st prize: 400 USD
- 2nd prize: 300 USD
- 3rd prize: 100 USD
- Top 10 consolation prizes: 40 USD (each)
