First steps tutorial

Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki ‒ it is really easy.

Getting help

More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (direct access). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing.

Goodies, tips and tricks
 • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your Graphics abilities.
 • All your uploads are stored in your personal Gallery
 • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~
 • Use the CommonSense tool to find good categories for your files (then other people can find them too!)
 • To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: :Image:Foo.jpg, which produces: Image:Foo.jpg
 • If you're copying files from another project, be sure to use the CommonsHelper
Made a mistake?
 • Did you want to rename or move a file? Simply upload the file again and mark the old one like this: Correct name

Kategoriak[edit]

Hallo

Ikusi dut ondotxo ikasi duzula zelan lotxen diren artikulu eta irudi orrial dagozkien kategori orriekin, baina batzutan behar baino kategoria-lotura gehiago jartzen diezu. Commons:Categories laguntza orrian azaltzen denez, orri bat subkategoria bati lotzen zaionean, ez da beharrezkoa subkategoria bera daukan goikategoriei lotura zuzena jartzea. Hau da, orri batek Category:Sculptures in Basque country lotura jada badauka, ez da Category:Basque Country lotura jarri behar, Scultures in Basque Country jada Basque Countryren subkategoria delako. Le meas. --Javier ME 21:44, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Javier. Ados nago kategeoria-lotura gehiegi jarri ez dela ona baina uset dut Category:Sculptures in Basque country Category:Basque Country orrian agertzen da lotura jarri dudalako, ze aurretik ez zela agertu. Lotura kendu duzu eta Basque Country orrialdera badihoazu, ez da agertu orain.
Beste orrialdeekin koparatuta, bi edo hiru kategoriak ez dire gehiegi, Category:Sculptures in Valencia orrian adibidez hiru agertzen dira, Category:Sculptures in Spain, Valencia eta Category:Valencia.
Oraintxe nahiko zaila da EHari buruzko media lortzea wiki commons-ean eta saiatzen air naiz Category:Basque Country orrialde guztietan jatzeko, orri hori media portaltzat bihurtzeko. Zer uste duzu? Akerbeltz 15:09, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ez da horren zaila Category:Sculptures in Basque country topatzea Category:Basque Countrytik hasiz goikategoriak subkategoria gutxi badauka, lotura zuzena ez badago ere. Eskulturak Art in the Basque Country antzeko kategoria batean egon behar direla konturatzea nahiko erraza da. Subkategoria guztiak zuzen listatuko balira, zerrenda luzeegia suerta liteke. Kategoriak jerarkizatzea ez da oztopoa kategori orria portal moduan erabiltzeko. --Javier ME 22:54, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Bestalde, Category:Servicio Vasco de Salud - Osakidetza berreskuratu dut. Bertan ospitalak ez diren zerbitzuen irudiak ager daitezkeen (hots, anbulantziak, anbulatorioak, langileak). Eta aldi berean, ospitalen kategorian sartu dut Osakidetzarena izan ez zela behin Hospital de los Santos Juanes izan zen eraikinaren irudia. --Javier ME 22:54, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bale, Sculptures Basque art kategorian ager daiteke baina Osakidetza bihurtuko dut. Ados nago Hospitals nahi ez baduzu baina WikiCommons, nahitaez, ingelesez dago eta Health services in the BC edo horrelakoren zerbait jarri bear dugu. Akerbeltz 22:58, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Kategoria izenak ingelesez idazten dira gehienbat, baina izen propioak jatorrizko hizkuntzaz erabili ohi ditugu. Osakidetza eta Servicio Vasco de Salud erakunde baten izen ofizialak dira. Era berean category:Athletic Club de Bilbao eta Category:École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts dauzkagu, eta ez ditugu beraien izenak itzultzen, nahiz eta erakunde hauek sartzen ditugun goikategoria orokorrak ingelesez izendatu (category:Association football clubs of Spain eta Category:Education in France). Bestalde, lehen Osakidetza kategoria Category:Health in Spain delakoaren subkategoria zen. ezabatzen baduzu eta kategoria berriari goikategoriari lotura jartzen ez badiozu, konexio hori galtzen da. Le meas. --Javier ME 07:47, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Kasu ezberdina da Europar Batasunarena, 23 izen ofizialak dituena. Denal kategoria izenean jartzea luzeegia liteke, eta izen ofizialetariko bat ingelesa da, beraz Category:European Union deitzen diogu eta orrian beste izenak idazten ditugu. Baina Osakidetzak bi izen ofizial baino ez dauka, eta bat ere ez da ingelesezkoa. --Javier ME 07:55, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Baina osakidetza eta servicio Vasco de salud ez dira izen propioak, izen arruntak baizik. Nire lanbidea itzulpengintza da eta horrelako izenal normalean itzultzen dira erakunde bat beste herri batean ere badago. Gainera, begira orri hau: Category:Public services of Spain - guztiak ingelesez daude.
Egia esan nik ere jatorrizko izenak nahiago nituzke baina Commons-en kasuan, ez dago zentzurik. Aurkibideak dira orri honek. Gainera, gaztelera eta euskara jartzen badituzu, frantsesera era jarri behar duzu eta nahiko luzea utziko duzu izena orduan. Akerbeltz 09:55, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Osakidetza ta SVS izen propioak dira, jakina. Jaurlaritzak erakunde zehatz baterako aukeratu dituztenak dira. Osakidetzaren dokumentuetan bi izen horiek agertzen dira (frantzesa ez da ofizialki erabiltzen EAEn. Antzeko kasua: Nafarroako gobernuak Osasunbide ta SNS izenak aukeratu ditu bere osasun herri zerbitzurako. Aipatu duzun Category:Public services of Spain hortan gauza bera gertatzen da: kategoria orokorrak ingelesez dago, eta erakunde zehatzen azpikategoriak izen propioak gordetzen dituzte. Hots Category:Police of Spain ingelesez dago ta bertan erakunde zehatz bati buruzko azpikategoriek (Ertzaintza, Cuerpo Nacional de Policía eta Guardia Civil) izen ofiziala dute, eta beste kontzeptuei buruzkoak (Police cars in Spain, Police motorcycles in Spain) ingelesez daude. Le meas. --Javier ME 11:59, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, konpromiso bat? Jar dezagun Category:Health Services in the Basque Country eta horren azpitik Osakidetza/SVS. Horrela, bi izen "propio" honek agertuko dira eta beste zerbitzuak (adibidez Iparraldekoak) horren azpitik ere jar daiteke. Ados? Akerbeltz 12:17, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Servicio Vasco de Salud - Osakidetza is already under Category:Health services in the Basque Country. There should be a discussion on what we understand as Basque Country somewher, but I don't find it now. --Javier ME 22:34, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's there because I moved it there ;)
I don't think this is the place to worry about making fine distinctions about the exact territorial nature of the BC. This subject is treated in vast detail on wiki. There is kind of a page like that already anyway, Category:Basque Country (historical territory). Most material has ended up on the Category:Basque Country page though somehow. Please let's not move it ;) Akerbeltz 01:14, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Most material has ended up on the Category:Basque Country page though somehow :) Somehow? We know how some of the contents have ended up there [1] . Anyway I agree this is not the place to discuss it, since the discussion will interest many other people. Tschuss. --Javier ME 07:54, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
LOL well, to be fair if you look at the page history you'll see that even before I started collating the Basque material, the Basque Country page contained about 80% of the linked categories and the BC (hist terr) a lot less. Akerbeltz 11:32, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Akerbeltz!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Sigfrido Kochen argazkiak[edit]

Hi Akerbeltz.

I saw that you uploaded some photos of Sigfrido Koch from GureGipuzkoa. Those photos have CC-BY-ND license, and you gave them CC-BY-SA in Commons. I think that this is not correct. I don't remember if Commons admits that license (CC-BY-ND), you should check it. Keep up the good work.--Assar (talk) 08:31, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, some of them seem to have CC-BY-SA and some ND... I better check, thanks for spotting that. What's the problem with ND, incidentally? I'm not that firm on licensing conventions. Akerbeltz (talk) 02:16, 27 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ainmean-Àite Gaidhlig Inbhir Nis / Inverness Gaelic Place Names[edit]

Hello Akerbeltz, first of all congatulations on your highly useful Sounds of Scottish Gaelic (I believe this was your work?) - would it be possible for you create a sound file of the Gaelic pronunciation for Inverness? There are also many Gaelic place names of Inverness' areas in the toponymy section, although this is probably asking too much. All the best, le durachdan.

Glad you like them; they were part of a compromise some time ago about IPA vs adopted pronunciation and I've tried to stay faithful to making an effort to add sound where I add IPA. And yes, sorry, I did promise that somewhere didn't I? I'll do one this weekend! Akerbeltz (talk) 11:48, 4 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Category discussion warning

Security services in the Basque Country has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!
