Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~. To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg. You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account. There are several tools to upload files. Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful. Made a mistake? Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it. Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Making category descriptions

Hello Adrar, have a look at the collapsed multi-langauge descrition at Category:Northern Basque Country. Such descriptions are being made by internationalisation, but have to be prepared. You could do a great job by making one-line descriptions in basque and in english for the cats in the category tree Category:Basque Country. Best is to resume the introduction textes from english and basque wikipedia; if you wish, you can add a third description in french, but en and eu will do. E.g. for Labourd this could be:

• introduction from en:Labourd shortened ==>
  English:
  Labourd or Lapurdi, in the french Pyrénées Atlantiques département (64), is a former province of France and one of the seven provinces of the Basque Country.
• shortened introduction (my guess, don't smile, just correct it) from eu:Lapurdi ==>
  Euskara:
  Lapurdi Euskal Herriko zazpi lurraldeetako bat da. Administratiboki Frantziako Akitania eskualdeko Pirinio Atlantikoak departamenduko (64).

slash / to be avoided in titles

Hello, Adrar, I saw you making titles like Category:Ernest Fourneau in Ascain / Azkaine. I inform you that the use of / in titles is greatly disencouraged, because it stands for subpages, (in general computer use for documentpaths), and also because bots may overlook such pages. Try to use in the future alternatives like ..in Ascain - Azkaine or ..in Ascain (Azkaine). No need to change what already has been named. Greetings. --Havang(nl) (talk) 22:54, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

Please don't blank pages

Hi Adrar,
Thank you for your contributions to Commons. I noticed you blanked Cordobilla (Navarre) on Commons. I asume you meant for the page to be deleted, but blanking the page is not the right way to do this. I'd like to strongly recommend to use {{speedy| type reason here }} and add it on top of the page you would like to have deleted; This way it will be placed on a special list that administrators check regulary for deletion. Aupa Krinkle, thanks for the advice. I'm not an expert; I created the page and I didn't want to delete it but to redirect this reference to "Category:Cordobilla (Galar)". Now I have done a category redirect so I hope it will be OK if now I write in this empty page the name of the category which would be redirected. Les listes me paraissent justes. Il me semble avoir lu quelque part un nom en basque entre Villefranque et Bayonne. Hélas, je ne connais pas bien les anciennes gares d'Urt, puisque je n'ai que 15 ans... mais j'en ai eu des échos grâce à mon grand-père cheminot. Pour les gares après Urt de la ligne Bayonne - Toulouse, il me semble qu'il y avait Sames - Guiche, Orthevielle, Peyrehorade, Église de Peyrehorade, Cauneille, Labatut et Puyoô.

Je connais la gare de Sames-Guiche de nom (et grâce à l'aticle Wikipédia :) mais je n'y suis jamais allé, malgré sa proximité... Et bien que mon lycée soit juste à côté du quartier du même nom, je ne sais pas où se trouve l'ancienne gare de Marracq. Si je la trouve, je pourrais aller prendre des photos.
