UK poll diagram[edit]

Hello, thanks for your works on the UK opinion polls.svg! I noticed you made some big changes recently, and if you're open to feedback, I felt the smaller colored dots of the previous diagrams made them easier to read, as well as the use of grey and white as different colors respectively for the font under the lines and dots, and for the font under the key, rather than all in grey. Just my two cents, though. Thanks again for the neat visual. Cordially. --Aréat (talk) 00:19, 4 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I think I've gotten what you asked. Hit me up if you have any other ideas! AdamFilinovich (talk) 14:51, 6 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! I think it look way better now, it's really top notch work. Since you're asking, I would say maybe have the order of the dots on the right side be the same than the lines from top to bottom, so that we instinctively know where to look, but that's a details really. Thanks again for the great graph and being open to remarks. ;) --Aréat (talk) 00:08, 7 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
My only concern with that is that one could argue with any decision made for the ranking. Currently they're ranked by the 2017 result, then chronological order. I'm not terribly opposed to ordering them by current polling average, but I'd want to know what those on the talk page of the article thought about it before I make a change like that. Thanks for the idea! AdamFilinovich (talk) 00:29, 10 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi AdamFilinovich, I also want to say thanks for your work on the UK polling plot. I check the page most days, and would be happy to update the plot whenever new polls are added to the table — would you be willing to share the code you use to generate the plot with me? It's completely up to you of course! Scrpy (talk) 09:40, 21 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Currently the process is fairly manual. If you'd really like to update the chart yourself, I've made a document explaining how I do it. I've also updated the current chart (although it doesn't seem to have properly updated everywhere). Thanks for any help you decide to give! AdamFilinovich (talk) 12:21, 21 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I see. I'm not familiar with Inkscape I'm afraid — I was thinking the plot was generated automatically using a script rather than (semi)manually. I think I'll leave it for now, but if I have time I will try to implement all the logic you describe in the doc that happens in Sheets and then Inkscape into a Python script that generates an updated SVG completely automatically. Scrpy (talk) 09:08, 23 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
That'd be great! Thanks for any help! AdamFilinovich (talk) 10:02, 23 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

National Democratic Primary[edit]

Hey,

I was wondering if you could do the same thing you did for the UK opinion polls but for the Democratic primary (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nationwide_opinion_polling_for_the_2020_Democratic_Party_presidential_primaries#April%E2%80%93June_2019). Much like the UK graph, it was started by Mélencron, but he disappeared after the beginning of July. So, I was wondering if you could make something similar to what he did. Right now, the graph is based on the poll aggregators & that's not great, since they omit polls. Therefore, the graph isn't as accurate as it should be. To give you an idea, this was Mélencron's last graph : https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Nationwide_opinion_polling_for_the_2020_Democratic_Party_presidential_primaries_(all_declared_candidates).svg. Sorry, if I'm asking too much by the way. I've been trying to learn how to do this myself. But, right now, I haven't really made that much progress.

It's possible, but it will probably take me a little longer to do then the UK graph as the candidates and their ordering is less consistent between tables. I'll see if I can throw something together. AdamFilinovich (talk) 00:29, 10 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I can send you a table that is more consistent. I'm almost done putting it together. It doesn't have all the candidates though (only Biden, Sanders,Warren,Harris,O'Rourke, Buttigieg & Booker).

How's this AdamFilinovich (talk) 14:13, 12 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, it's perfect MikkelJSmith (talk) 17:06, 12 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Just to let you know, I've added it to the Nationwide Democratic polling for 2020 page. MikkelJSmith (talk) 04:43, 13 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Spreadsheet with data[edit]

Here is the spreadsheet with the main candidates that I mentioned yesterday:https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1lSouB6HvdKL1j91S5O10J1B0A1HdNaeZRZuD_sxhOXA/edit?usp=sharing. Feel free to use it to make your graph. It's more consistent then the current tables on Wikipedia. It's also important to note that I unlinked the "Other" section. Therefore, it doesn't link to the footnotes. I had to do this since my links were out of date compared to the current footnotes.

MikkelJSmith (talk) 20:20, 10 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Since Mélencron officially retired, I was wondering if you would be willing to help update the above file, considering it is a few months out of date, or if you knew of anyone who could do so. Thanks! HapHaxion (talk / contribs) 03:22, 27 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I can work on it, but I need some time to catch up on my coursework. AdamFilinovich (talk) 00:20, 29 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello[edit]

Any chance you can update the UK opinion poll graph on en: Wikipedia? We're heading to a general election, which suggests more frequent updates are a good idea, and it's been 2 weeks since one of you clever graph editors last updated. Thanks so much. --Dweller (talk) 11:46, 29 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
