Hey[edit]

Seems like you're pretty knowledgeable about mites - I'm not though, so could you provide a comparison to show that File:Clover Mite In Sand.jpg is indeed not a clover mite? Thanks. (admittedly, potential citogenesis makes this worse) Also, as I'm a file renamer, feel free to ping me directly in the future with renames you'd like done, as the normal system can take quite a while. Sure! Here are photos of clover mites (Bryobia) from BugGuide.net; here's an article from the University of Florida's extension service. Note that they are relatively flat, with bluish bodies hairless except for a few short white hairs or spikes. For comparison, here are velvet mites (family Trombidiidae). They are bright red and covered in plush velvety fur all over, and much chunkier. (I am pretty sure the mite in File:Clover Mite In Sand.jpg is a red velvet mite, but I think chiggers (family Trombiculidae) can look similar and I'm not familiar with them, so to be on the safe side I would label it as the group that contains both, Parasitengona.)
Unfortunately, most photos of "clover mites" online are of parasitengones (red velvet mites, chiggers, or long-legged velvet mites). Pest control company websites are a very poor source of information; many are outdated, misleading, or just plain wrong. I generally rely on university extension websites and figures in scientific papers (a lot are on ResearchGate and come up in Google Images searches). BugGuide.net is also reliable, as the photos are all manually classified by knowledgeable people, many of them scientists who are experts on the taxa. I'm not an expert myself, but I know enough to tell some common groups of mites apart.
Please let me know if there's anything else you need, I'm quite new to Wikimedia/Wikipedia! — AcariCommons (talk) 22:04, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Awesome. Feel free to ask me if you have any questions about Commons or need help with anything! I've moved the files you requested. Elli (talk) 01:33, 20 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
