Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content). You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). Pay attention to licensing
|
Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content: images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose.
File:Ezra Light Grumbine.png seems to be free (or it would be proposed for deletion), but it was identified as having a wrong license. Usually, it is because a public domain image is tagged with a free license, or because the stated source or other information is not sufficient to prove the selected tag is correct. Please verify that you applied the correct license tag for this file. If you believe this file has the correct license, please explain why on the file discussion page.

Please note that merely scanning, uploading, or cropping a public domain image usually does not grant new copyright or ownership. {{PD-US-expired}} is a more appropriate license. If you cannot ascertaing hte photographer, then {{Unknown photographer}} or {{Unkonwn}} can be used instead of misleadingly claiming yourself as author. Please indicate the book you scanned the image(s) from, as I doubt you are a time-travelling photographer. Other files with similar issues include:
- File:Moses Dissinger.png
- File:High altar of the Church of the Annunciation.jpg
- File:Lee Light Grumbine.png
- File:French Church of St. Sauveur.jpg (if an image is in the public domain due to copyright expiration, a CC-BY license is overly restrictive).
