File:5. Dan Lev tweets Mashable - Flickr - Knight Foundation.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

ArchiveBot

Hi, I noticed you have set up User:MiszaBot to archive your talk page. Unfortunately, the bot has stopped working, and given how its operator is inactive, it is unclear when/if this will fixed. For the time being, I have volunteered to operate a MiszaBot clone (running the exact same code). With that said, your input would be appreciated at Commons:Bots/Requests/ArchiveBot 1. Thanks for your photo!

Hello!

My name is Laurie and I'm the Project Manager for na2ure, an NYC-based startup toy company. We featured this photo of yours (http://commons.wikimedia.or/wiki/File:African_white-backed_vulture_(Masai_Mara,_Kenya)_-_Lip_Kee.jpg) in our upcoming app, and wanted to thank you. Thank you!

na2ure is all about designing science play. We developed a game-changing platform called ferret that classifies ecological data into an intuitive network that can be easily learned through play. The high end value of our work attracted STEM>STEAM icon John Maeda, as well as the VCs behind LittleBits, Sphero, Makerbot, and Shapeways. The science has been vetted by MD's and PhD's, tested by kids, and praised by educators as appealing to all ages.

None of this would have been possible without your work. Thank you.

The app is available on the iOS platform and will be released to the public soon. Be sure to follow us on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/Anigramit) and Twitter (@anigramit) for a quick, easy way to share the news with your social media network -- and to keep up to date on all the great stuff we’re doing.

Again, thank you! Laurie Vazquez Project Manager, na2ure manager@na2ure.com

Your edits to archives

Can you please review/explain your edits shown here? They are problematic, in that https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons_talk:Upload_Wizard now links to a blank page; the"2" in "Archives: 1, 2" leads to a blank page. Can you finish/fix what you started? I guess you moved what was in the 2012 and 2011 archives into archive 1, which now includes all archives, but the main page uses the template {{Talk header}}, which links to the defunct 2. I think we should move 2 back to 2012, and then the template will work right. Agreed? --Elvey (talk) 18:59, 10 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I went ahead and moved it, but I think the original page (now a redirect) needs to be deleted before the fix will work. I'm a mover, but not an admin... --Elvey (talk) 20:30, 10 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You have broken the automated code that linked to the archives that are archived automatically by not. Manual archives are difficult to maintain and time consuming. I do not entirely understand the problem entirely. -- とある白い猫 ちぃ? 16:37, 11 May 2014 (UTC)
Please point to the edit (diff) you think has "broken the automated code that linked to the archives that are archived automatically by not" <sic>. I'm no aware of such a thing. I'm sorry you don't understand. Someone will take a look at my deletion request, so we'll have a third opinion. --Elvey (talk) 03:07, 14 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, Commons talk:Upload Wizard itself. It has links to archives (1, 2 etc.) which are automatically linked/generated. As it is on the rest of the site, talk archives are normally kept with size restrictions where a new archive page is created if a certain quota is reached, not by year as you are trying to do. In the case of this page the quota is 250K which hasn't been reached yet which is why only the first archive page is still used. Furthermore, as you can see ArchiveBot archives to the numbered page. The second page and onward will be used eventually once the archive exceeds that quota. In order to retain edit histories none of these archive pages should be deleted even if kept as a redirect. As I said before, I am uncertain what problem(s) you are solving but the problems I mentioned are the ones you are unintentionally causing. -- とある白い猫 ちぃ? 00:00, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
I'm not keen to switch them from numeric to by year. I don't care one way or the other. I'm simply trying to fix the broken link I described to you when I said: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons_talk:Upload_Wizard now links to a blank page; the"2" in "Archives: 1, 2" leads to a blank page. We don't need the edit histories of archive pages because we have the edit history in the pages the archives archive. I don't see where you have pointed to the edit (diff) you think has "broken the automated code that linked to the archives that are archived automatically by not" <sic>. Again: Please point to the edit (diff) you think has "broken the automated code that linked to the archives that are archived automatically by not" <sic>. It seems there's quite a language barrier here...--Elvey (talk) 02:20, 21 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
By doing so you have turned an otherwise non-problem into a problem. Now archive history has been buried under a year as if the archive pages are listed by year and the redirect link to it has been deleted resulting in the associated histories to be unnecessarily obscure. Mind that the /Archive 2 page will eventually be recreated by the archive bot so I cannot imagine why you would nominate it for deletion in the first place. Why did you even seek this action? Deleted pages do not save us server hard drive space or anything of the sort. I am also confused why you file the page under COM:DEL? If your goal is simple clean-up, you should have just requested a history merge with a speedy deletion template. -- とある白い猫 ちぃ? 10:16, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
ASKED AND ANSWERED. AGAIN: I was simply trying to fix the broken link I described to you when I said: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons_talk:Upload_Wizard now links to a blank page; the"2" in "Archives: 1, 2" leads to a blank page. I was successful.
AGAIN: We don't need the edit histories of archive pages because we have the edit history in the pages the archives archive. I don't see where you have pointed to the edit (diff) you think has "broken the automated code that linked to the archives that are archived automatically by not" <sic>. I asked you to do so twice, already. I give up trying to communicate with you. Please stay off my talk page. --Elvey (talk) 05:12, 24 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Link to a blank archive page was a non-problem that would have fixed itself as /archive 1 grew large enough for the bot to automatically use /archive 2. You were not successful in fixing the non-problem because you had inadvertently created an actual problem.
We do need edit histories of archive pages as that is the single most effective way for us to maintain the integrity of archive pages. By having an edit history you can quickly see exactly when those threads were archived (and by which account) and verify if the archiving person or bot has archived without any kind of manipulation. With your move of /Archive 2 to /Archive 2012 you have broken the automated code that linked to the revision history in /Archive 2 as the template will not link to /Archive 2012. I am bothering to explain all of this to you to inform you on the rationale on why we as the commons community care about such issues.
I have requested a history merge as a clean up of the after the problem. This is the correct procedure to correct such problems. I am hoping you would prefer this to moving archive pages in the future.

See discussion on my talk page. You copied it there. Duplication is bad.--Elvey (talk) 02:38, 21 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

In my 9+ years on wikimedia sites I have always communicated in this manner. I see it as a common courtesy (some people prefer to use {{Talkback}} which is fine too - it has the same notification intention after all). You have posted a discussion on my talk page, then used it as a comdel discussion rationale without bothering to notify me of your action (again a common courtesy, more so because my talk page is involved) and then essentially removed the entire thread on my talk page deciding what should be displayed on my talk page. By doing so you have essentially indirectly removed the discussion (counter-arguments) from the COM:DEL discussion. Please do not remove the "duplicate" from my talk page as I wish to maintain a copy of the discussion for the purposes of record keeping (of my activity) and for transparency purposes. -- とある白い猫 ちぃ? 10:16, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
I appreciate the effort to be courteous. I'd say It's very uncommon, at least on the wikis I frequent, and not helpful. Sorry if you didn't like the way I dealt with it. Let's agree to disagree. Over and out. --Elvey (talk) 05:12, 24 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Procedures and practices on commons is different from other wikis as we are a community of all communities. As the commons community, we should give special attention in reaching out to the people we serve. Hence, the best practice here is to make sure the other person is aware of your response. Some people on commons go as far as to post a reply or notification to other wikis where their counterpart is more active and/or email. -- とある白い猫 ちぃ? 12:55, 24 May 2014 (UTC)

Category discussion warning

Non-copyright restriction templates has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!
