File:Star Plus Logo.jpg[edit]

Hi Tavio. You deleted File:Hot Star Logo with Black Bg.jpg per COM:CSD#F4, so I am wondering if you'd also take a look at File:Star Plus Logo.jpg. This one is licensed as "PD-logo" and "PD-ineligible". The "PD-ineligible" seems completely wrong, but I'm not sure about the "PD-logo" because it's not all that different from the one you just deleted. The uploader's user talk is pretty much filled with notifictions about problematic uploads and they have been indefinitely blocked for sockpuppetry, so I'm not sure how sound their judgment is when it comes to image uploads. COM:TOO#India says the country is similar to the US with respect to some cases, but similar to the UK with respect to other (older) cases. I don't think this file would be "PD-logo" in the UK, but it might be OK as such for the US. @Marchjuly: , I think, that file:Star Plus Logo.jpg is simple. It lacks 3-D effects and gradual color change. If you do not agree, then you can nominate it for regular deletion. Maybe even Hot Star Logo with Black Bg.jpg needed regular deletion request. Taivo (talk) 12:13, 2 October 2017 (UTC)

@Andshesmiled: . When I deleted the file, there was no permission. Gallertträne nominated the file for speedy deletion with reason "no permission". This was true, the source site had no copyright message, so I deleted the photo speedily. I am not OTRS-member myself, so I do not restore the photo at moment. If you know number of OTRS ticket of if you can show evidence, that the photo is published under CC-license, then please create an undeletion request in COM:UDEL. @Soluvo: , uploader's request is valid reason for speedy deletion during first week after uploading. Here 4 months have passed. The photos are big, they have good quality and in my opinion they have educational value. Taivo (talk) 17:02, 15 October 2017 (UTC)

@Taivo: That may be true, but in most of the pictures I nominated for speedy deletion the personal rights of the photographed people are violated. Hello Taivo, why is User:Soluvo blocked without warning, this seems the last discussion he takes? And it is not true what you say, all photos I checked are with persons. All images seeming also not in use (and imho not that relevant for Wikimedia, but I'm not that experienced here). -- User: Perhelion 19:06, 15 October 2017 (UTC)
Soluvo was blocked for 2 hours, because he nominated more images for deletion, after I told him not to do that, including those, where I declined speedy deletion. He nominated some 40 images for deletion, faster than I could decline them. I was not sure, how many images he's going to nominate for deletion, so this was emergency situation. At first he nominated images without people, but after I said him that, he nominated mostly photos with people. For some photos I accepted deletion request due to different reasons: freedom of panorama, no educational value and even privacy, but mostly the photos are made in public places and no one is in center of attention. Some photos will become better, if people are cropped away from bottom. If regular deletion request is created for the files, that's acceptable. Taivo (talk) 19:22, 15 October 2017 (UTC)

I just noticed you deleted this photo. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Beetle_in_Greece.jpg Here I read that there is a copyright violation, because the source is Facebook. It's wrong. @Moxmarco: all files existing on other sites in Internet before upload into Commons need OTRS-permission. After receiving the permission the file can be restored. The other possibility is to re-upload the file with complete EXIF data, just like most your uploaded photos have EXIF data. Taivo (talk) 07:55, 3 November 2017 (UTC)

Можете добавить файлы трёх типов. 1) Собственные фотографии, но если фотографируете дома, скульптуры или документы, то они могут быть защищены авторскими правами. 2) Документы, автором которых является государственный орган (не всякие государства подходят, но США, Советский Союз и Россия можно). 3) Очень старые вещи (в том числе дома и скульптуры), которые публиковали до Октябрской Революции. Hi, Taivo. You blocked a month the user who uploaded the files in Commons:Deletion requests/File:BilAl-KhokhAr.jpg and several similars, one of them DR'ed by this scribe. If I remember well, upon my request you also deleted Bilal's user page. (This is why I cannot find him now.) Yesterday I saw that he came back with a new name and uploaded files -possibly the same or similar ones to the deleted- while being still blocked. (They were all speedily deleted and his new user page was also deleted.) I'm not writing to you to propose to block him for a much longer period; because I am a firm believer in trying to "earn" people and not "lose" them. Maybe you can begin the counter back from day 1 to his original block and tell him firmly not to use two accounts at a time if he wishes to stay here. @Karentalent: , here are two reasons. At first, Michael Zomick is not mentioned in en.wiki, Commons does not need photos about him. At second, I do not believe, that you are official representative of Michael Zomick. These are only your words and need some evidence. Looking at things I've done I saw Commons:Deletion requests/File:Safiye Ali.jpg where -only now- I realize I have made a comment on a user, yourself, a good Commoner and an even better admin. Therefore I apologize publicly. From now on I will try even more to refrain from evaluating people, instead of their deeds, as nasty as they might be. (Of course I'm not referring to you; but there are a couple of this kind in Commons. :) As regards the file, I bettered its license. I will also categorize these Ottoman medals and recipient people, as soon as possible. I did not know until yesterday that even Admiral Nelson had received a "Selimiye" or "Selimieh"! Why??[edit]

Why have you marked File:Franco Ceccuzzi.jpg? The file is in the same condition (same author, same source) of almost all the files in the category Category:Images from Italian Chamber of Deputies. Please read Commons:Deletion requests. Regular deletion requests last 1 week for discussion plus up to month for closing the request. Most requests are closed during couple of first days after discussion time has passed, that means during 10 days from creation. Deletion requests are closed by administrators, because other users have no right to delete files. If 10 days are too long to wait, then speedy deletion request exists, but then the outcome must be very clear, otherways the speedy deletion request is rejected. For example, acceptable reasons for speedy deletion are uploader's request during 1 week after uploading or if the file is found on external site with earlier date, at least same resolution and non-free license (copyright violation). @Soluvo: , not always privacy is violated, when somebody is photographed without consent. For example, none of these photos violated privacy. Nevertheless, I decided to hide first version, if cropping made the photo better (that means always, except one photo). Taivo (talk) 20:25, 4 December 2017 (UTC)

File:Edward chef.jpg[edit]

Hi Taivo. I am wondering if you wouldn't mind taking a look at this file and File:Edward sonal.jpg. I tagged them with {{Npd}} because one of the file's EXIF data seems to indicate that it was taken from Facebook, while the other has no EXIF data at all. I came across the files after seeing COM:VP/C#File:Edward chef.jpg & File:Edward sonal.jpg. You eventually blocked the editor who uploaded the files for a week for repeated copyvio violations, but that was after I tagged the files; so, I wasn't trying to game the system or circumvent a DR as this IP's edit seems to suggest. Anyway, the files are from Facebook and can be found here and here. I thought that a npd tag would give the uploader a chance to verify the license, but if a DR discussion is needed than that's what I'll do. For reference, both files were uploaded to Commons on November 30, 2017, but they appeared on Facebook first: one in March 2017 and one in June 2011. -- Marchjuly (talk) 10:36, 2 December 2017 (UTC)

Women with things[edit]

Hi Taivo. An IP (better said a person who uses several IPs) is making a series of wrong categorization, regarding female people's cats. Their last cat introduction is Category:Women with earrings by country or Category:Women with earrings, where you also contributed once, applied to national cats. See this example or all three Malaysian women wearing earrings. This person uses the existing more important cats like "Actresses from Malaysia" or "Women of Malaysia" to create their "with earrings" cat and then leaves the whole cat (in this case the Malaysian ladies, but I'm afraid others too) only within Category:Women with earrings by country; which means these women lose other more important properties like nationality or profession and convert into "women wearing earrings in Malaysia"! They can be foreign tourists wandering around (why not, when you use "in" IMHO "by country" doesn't mean much) or the wife of the British High Commissioner in Kuala Lumpur. I appeal to your sound judgment, experience and admin skills to stop or lecture this person. They have made similar things in the past and I got tired of observing. Please be registered in our official records that until the above talk I had not disturbed you for a whole week... :) Now, I have doubts about the veracity of "own work" claim in some files but I wish to ask you to evaluate that first, not to make a mistake. Examples: File:Dhabihah ذبح اسلامی گوسفند 21.jpg. Was this image taken on 24 July 2015, 12:53:52 and uploaded on 05 August 2017? Why does the metadata speak of "Date and time of data generation - 22:10, 19 February 2009"? Or is that the camera's make year or something like that? I said "examples" but if I am wrong about something I'll leave it with one not to be too funny. (The other examples are similar bloody files...) @E4024: , if EXIF date and information template date do not match, then obviously at least one of them is wrong. If information template date matches upload date, then EXIF date is usually correct. But if there are three separate dates (EXIF, information template and upload), then I am not sure. Wrong date is not a reason to delete a file, but such cases I do not categorize the file by time. Big photo, EXIF exists, EXIF says, that uploader is photographer, Google image search does not find the image ... (Actually Google image search identifies depicted animal as "Scottish terrier"). Seems like own work. Taivo (talk) 14:37, 8 December 2017 (UTC)

Category:Ocean Monarch (ship, 1848)[edit]

Pleas bear in mind that in Commons we use for ships the year of completion. The German Wikipedia gives: Indienststellung 1848. So that is why the ship category has to be (different from the Englisch Wikipedia) Category:Ships built in 1848. Correct. We had a lot of discussions, years ago, together with the discussion about the brackets and commas in the shipname. Different wikipedia's use different systems. De Dutch, German, French, Polish etc. Wikipedia's use the year of completion, the English Wikipedia the year of launch. So it became common use in Wikimedia Commons to use the year of completion. Very, very old ships we don't know the year of completion and in that case we use the year of launch. --Stunteltje (talk) 16:50, 12 December 2017 (UTC)
@Stunteltje: . Thank you for explaining. But it's quite strange, that the ship was launched in July 1847 and it was still not completed by end of year. "July 1847" has reference, but "1848" in German has no reference, maiden voyage (Jungfernfahrt) has no reference, external links do not say anything about maiden voyage. en:Maiden voyage does not mention Ocean Monarch. If you go to the "Other Versions" section in the description of File:Istanbul Rapid Transit Map.png you will find "Open the Istanbul public transport network in Google Earth" there.
