About Me[edit]

My name is Michael Rygel. I earned a B.S. in Geology from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown in 2000, a Ph.D. in Earth Science from Dalhousie University in 2005, was a post-doc at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (2005-2006), and am presently an Associate Professor in the Geology Department at the State University of New York, College at Potsdam (2006-present).

I am a member of WikiProject Geology and am interested in improving Wikipedia geology articles, particularly those dealing with sedimentary geology and historical geology. My image contributions are listed below and my Wikipedia history can be found at my Wikipedia user page. My long-term goal is to add all of my teaching images to the Wikimedia Commons.

Useful tools[edit]

GeoLocator Tool - tool for georeferencing and geotagging; option for locating points via Google Maps interface.

Geocommons (Google Earth version) - right click on the this hyperlink (do a "save as") to download a .kml file that can be opened in Google Earth. Be sure to activate the photos layer in Google Earth to get the images to display. Much better results than the Google Maps version provided below.

Geocommons tool (Google Maps version) - shows geotagged images from Wikimedia commons on a Google Maps base.

Gallery tool - User contributions by timestamp
