Hi there, welcome to my user page. My name is Ruben van Kuik. I'm a Dutch nature and portrait photographer currently working on starting my own photography business. Besides regular photography, I also digitally restore and colourise old photos in the public domain. If you need to have a photo restored for a Wikipedia article, let me know and I'll see what I can do for you. I shoot most of my photos with a Nikon D610, but I have used a Nikon D5100 in the past. Besides my DSLRs I also own a large number of 35mm and medium format film cameras.
I'm currently working on restoring and colourising photos of the American civil war and 19th century photos of Amsterdam, especially the work of Jacob Olie. I'm a huge history buff, so I suppose my ultimate goal here is to preserve historical images and present them in a different way by adding colour. I find that adding colour to a photo presents it as if it were contemporary, as if what's happening in the photo could have taken place yesterday. As George Santayana once said: "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it". Whether that past is taking a bad portrait photo or an all-out civil war, I think those words are very true considering the current global political climate... and billions of bad selfies.
