Difficulty with uploading images, and copyright
Uploading maps[edit]
Recommendations for images:
- < 4.77 Mb
- < 12,500,000 pixels
- if JPG, then not progressive
- PNG preferred to GIF
An uploaded SVG file should specify the use of fonts supported by the software at Commons, and particularly "Liberation Mono", "Liberation Sans" and "Liberation Serif". See [1]

Some "special upload" forms, all differently broken: 1, 2, 3.
Instead of any of these, I've been recommended to use the "basic form".
Anyway, whatever form I use, if the image is derived from one already on Commons, I must look in the {{int:license-header}} section of the image(s) I've used, and copy whatever I find there into the corresponding section of my upload, in place of whatever the upload form put there.
- I've given up on this. If I upload an image that's derived from one already on Commons, it's likely to get removed for copyright reasons. This can happen within a few days, or after years. Sometimes I'm notified, sometimes not. I've wasted far too much time looking for information and advice on how to avoid this, and decided (in late 2018) to cut my losses and stop contributing such modified images. I continue to contribute, but only by modifying existing images or by uploading images that are entirely my own work.
