I'm HarryZilber (really Harry Zilber) and I've been a user, editor and article creator in Wikipedia since about 2003.

I see Wikipedia as a seminal accomplishment for the Internet and society as a whole. It allows disparate people from around the world, with multitudes of differing interests and abilities, to create and distribute knowledge collaboratively. As I once wrote in an article comment on Google's Knol project:

....There are two essential desirables to the information lay people want to access: quality (freedom from bias, accuracy, insight, readability, etc....) and quantity (breath of subjects/topics and depth within each particular subject). Britannica is frequently sited as the gold standard of encyclopedic quality, while few people will dispute that Wikipedia has the largest reservoir of encyclopedic content which makes it a very common and convenient one-stop shop for casual information searches and other types of research (to give them their due, many Wikipedia articles don't slouch on quality either).....

So here's to the world's largest reservoir of encyclopedic content, which will one day rival and surpass Britannica's quality!

Imagine a world in which every single human being can freely share in the sum of all knowledge. That's our commitment.
Wikimedia Foundation –motto

Wikipedia is first and foremost an effort to create and distribute a free encyclopedia of the highest possible quality to every single person on the planet in their own language.
