Dov YeHudy Grossman Artist Statement

I have never taken any painting classes, although I did take a couple of drawing classes at a local college. I have been self-taught and I believe that my art is outside of the norm and trend and would find a suitable place in your collection. I have worked by self-study, focusing on color, brush stroke, pattern, texture and tight composition. I try to fill the entire space of the canvas and convey energy and enthusiasm that I feel for my subject matter. One of my themes is finding expression with wildflowers and floral arrangements. This I learned from my mother who excelled at this genre.

LIFE[edit]

Dov YaHudy was born in Corpus Christi, Texas to Dr. Maurice S. Grossman and Lois Ruth Grossman[1].

He graduated with a Psychology degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1982. He studied Cartoon drawing at a local Hobby Lobby in the summer of 1981, Pencil and Charcoal Drawing at Austin College in Sherman Texas in 1985, and Painting at Oakton Community College under Professor Mark Palmeri MA in 2016. He also studied Acrylic painting online with Ginger Cook (online Academy of Fine Art and Acrylic Painting) in 2016.

Dov YaHudy built up a range of art from 2015 to the Present inspired by the Style of Expressionism and Impressionism depicting a range of subjects including Nature, Landscapes, People, Animals, Still Lifes and Floral Arrangements.

In 2023 Dov YaHudy self-published and distributed a Jewish Calendar featuring the Hebrew Year 5784 and centering on the Chabad Jewish religion.

Dov YaHudy currently lives in Chicago Illinois and his art in featured in Gallery 187 in Utopia Texas, Bais Menachem synagogue and numerous private collections in Illinois, New York, Texas and Wisconsin.

Dov YaHudy Grossman is the cousin of artist Kay Rosen and frequently seeks her advice for the creation and exhibition of his art.

His main inspiration in art, according to his website was mother, Lois Ruth Grossman who was also an artist. She actively producing paintings and drawings from 1956 to 1977 (when she passed away from cancer) and taught art in the Corpus Christi school system, Del Mar College and Texas A&I University (now Texas A&M Corpus Christi)[2]. Also, according to the website, 4 year-old Dov YaHudy used to regularly attend classes until he started kindergarten at age 6.

His paintings reside in Synagogues, Jewish Institutions and private collections of Texas, Illinois, Wisconsin and Israel.

Some of these paintings I even paint on cardboard boxes. The cardboard boxes are another allusion to homelessness, and perhaps the dreams of those locked in it. I would like very much to share my paintings with the community of Chicago. I realize that Intuit focuses on “outsider” art, the unschooled and disenfranchised. I feel that describes myself, and my art. Thank you for considering my submission to the Intuit Center for Outsider art.
