How can I use this photograph?[edit]
Free use with attribution[edit]
With a small handful of exceptions, all of my photographs at Wikimedia Commons are made available under a Creative Commons attribution license (CC-BY-4.0). This means that anyone is free to use the images for any purpose -- private, public, educational, commercial -- with no charge and no need to contact me in advance or ask for permission.
The only requirement of the CC-BY-4.0 license is that the creator of the image must be credited. A credit line like the following is suggested:

For print publications, the attribution can be placed in the photo caption or in a separate list of photo credits. You are free to adjust the wording, format, and punctuation of the credit line to fit the style of the publication. You need not provide a full URL for the page on which the image appears, as long as Wikimedia Commons is listed as the source. For web sites, blogs, and other online publications, please provide a link to the original page where possible.
Exception for lectures and classroom use[edit]
All of my photographs were originally taken for teaching or research purposes. I know how cumbersome it can be to include photo credits for every image used in a PowerPoint lecture or class discussion, especially if a slide contains more than one image or is already crowded with captions, labels, and other explanatory text. To avoid distracting clutter, I explicitly waive the requirement to credit the photographer in such cases. You are free to use these images in the classroom and in public lectures without attribution. Please remember to add the credit if your talk is later published online or in print.
