Pages still editable[edit]

I dont' see how to use this template. You can still edit the pages. --Warden 12:35, 2 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The template is to be put on when an administrator protects a page with the 'protect' button to inform users that it's protected and why, it doesn't protect a page in itself -- Joolz 13:11, 2 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
OK, Thanks for the answer --Warden 19:36, 6 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Edit Request[edit]

Editprotected Please edit <table class="protected" style="background:#fff; border:1px solid #aaa; padding:.2em; margin:.5em auto;"> to <table class="protected" style="direction: ; background:#fff; border:1px solid #aaa; padding:.2em; margin:.5em auto;"> to make it looks okay on RTL. Indicator[edit]

Edit request Please use page status indicators instead of div.topicon. Thanks, --Ricordisamoa 04:05, 28 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Ricordisamoa: can you please past the new template content somewhere so that i can copy&paste it. Thanks. --Steinsplitter (talk) 16:41, 28 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Steinsplitter: Template:Protected/sandbox should suffice. Thank you, --Ricordisamoa 03:34, 1 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Ricordisamoa and Steinsplitter: This broke the template, see File:Cc.logo.circle.svg or any other upload-protected file.    FDMS  4    19:27, 4 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@FDMS4 and Steinsplitter: I've found the issue and updated the sandbox. --Ricordisamoa 10:27, 5 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
OK thanks! --Steinsplitter (talk) 10:48, 5 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Translate extension[edit]

Editprotected Hello! I need a translation admin (who is also a sysop). Please move to and mark for translation with the following text:

<languages />
<onlyinclude>{{#switch:{}
|text1=<translate>This namespace has been protected</translate>
|default-reason=<translate>from editing to prevent vandalism.</translate>
|reason=<translate>because <tvar|reason>{reason}</>.</translate>
|text2=<translate>Please discuss changes on the talk>TALKPAGENAME</>|talk page or AN>COM:AN/P</>|request unprotection.</translate>
|img-text1=<translate>This page is protected against editing.</translate>
|img-text2=<translate>This page is semi-protected against editing.</translate>
|img-text3=<translate>This page is protected against reuploading.</translate>
|img-text4=<translate>This page is semi-protected against reuploading.</translate>
|error-text=<translate>Error: This page is not currently protected. Please AN>COM:AN/P</>|request protection it or remove the protection template.</translate>

@Hedwig in Washington: Please copy the text from the displayed page, not the source. There should be < instead of &lt; in the final source code. --Tacsipacsi (talk) 00:58, 1 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, sorry, I haven’t mentioned it: you should immediately mark the page for translation, as the translation page (Template:Protected/text) is broken while included in other pages, but when the “translated” page (Template:Protected/text/en for English) is generated by the translation system (and isn’t a redirect to the translation page), it’ll be OK. And when the redirect is overwritten, I think you can unprotect the translation page as if I’m right, it won’t be included anywhere and its modifications appear on other pages only when a translation admin marks the page for translation. --Tacsipacsi (talk) 16:33, 1 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
All suppages must be moved and then merged. Not just the /en. --Steinsplitter (talk) 12:23, 7 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
No, because now we have Template:Protected/text/de and after the change we’ll have a /de translation subpage under Template:Protected/text = Template:Protected/text/de. Merge is mandatory indeed, but it can be done by anybody, for example by me. 12 translations are not too much. --Tacsipacsi (talk) 13:30, 7 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Tacsipacsi: ✓ Done --Steinsplitter (talk) 13:39, 7 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Steinsplitter: Thank you, but I don’t think /text should be protected as it isn’t transcluded on any page. --Tacsipacsi (talk) 14:21, 7 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
If someone like to change the english text a edit request is needed. This restores status quo. --Steinsplitter (talk) 14:29, 7 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Which of the padlock should appear if page is semi-protected, but the file is protected from re-uploading?[edit]

For example, for File:Commons-logo.svg both the file is protected and the page. is used as indicator. I've tried to add Upload-padlock to File:Template-protection-shackle.svg using Template:Protected, but only has appeared. It seems that this is because of the logic of this template. Hence the question: which padlock should take the precedence when different protections are used? or ? —andrybak (talk) 15:17, 8 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Or maybe both padlocks should be shown at the same time? —andrybak (talk) 15:20, 8 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I’m in favour of showing both, which I’ve implemented in Template:Protection/sandbox?diff=583967114. — ExE Boss (talk) 19:30, 21 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Use Special:MyLanguage[edit]

Editprotected

Please replace

|pt=Commons:Proteção de páginas}}

with

Special:MyLanguage/Commons:Protection policy

everywhere in this template (five times). Special:MyLanguage/Commons:Protection policy redirects the reader to the translation in their language if the language exists (for any language, not only German, French, Japanese and Portuguese). This is now possible as Commons:Protection policy’s translations use language code suffixes, not localized page titles like the ones in the current template code. (This template is fully protected because it’s used on cascade-protected pages like Commons:Auto-protected files/wikipedia/en or Commons:Auto-protected files/misc/fixcopyright, so I can’t edit it myself.) Thanks in advance, —Tacsipacsi (talk) 18:21, 8 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

When sandbox[edit]

Editprotected When the code of this template is replaced by the code of PP-template, the useless error messages that sandboxes aren't protected will be suppressed. (see an example) -- sarang사랑 11:57, 16 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
