How to purge the cache?[edit]

Hello developers – particularly @Dschwen:

Could someone please tell me how I can purge the cache the tool uses, when the image is updated? For example,

http://tools.wmflabs.org/panoviewer/#cmglee_Wikimania2016_Esino_Lario_Municipio_photosphere.jpg

continues to use the older version of File:cmglee_Wikimania2016_Esino_Lario_Municipio_photosphere.jpg.

Doing Shift-Refresh or adding ?action=purge to the URL didn't help...

Thanks,

A hack is to just rename (move) the file and use the new name in Pano360. The old name should still be accessible for other use. cmɢʟeeτaʟκ 19:43, 28 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The link from the template https://panoviewer.toolforge.org/#Cmglee_Wikimania2016_Esino_Lario_terrace_photosphere.jpg works for me. -- Tim Starling (talk) 02:56, 3 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Some JPEGs not recognised[edit]

Not sure if it's best to add this here, directly to User:Dschwen or as an issue on the repository.

Firstly, this is a great tool and I hope will be used more widely across Wikimedia projects. However....

I tried to add the template to https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Agdam_pano.jpg , and the viewer errored out with "This file does not look like a valid JPEG". (https://tools.wmflabs.org/panoviewer/#Agdam_pano.jpg)

Having had a look through the code, it looks like it requires the string starting at character 6 in the JPEG file to be "JPEG", "Exif" or "Photoshop"; in this file that string is "Adobe".

I'd guess this is a Photoshop CS6 peculiarity, and this should just be added to the allowed list? TSP (talk) 14:18, 31 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

(I think the viewer wouldn't work well on this panorama in any case, as it's a flat panorama not a spherical one - comparing https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Tour_Eiffel_360_Panorama.jpg - but it seems worth addressing the issue anyway.) TSP (talk) 14:22, 31 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Can we specify vertical field of view?[edit]

For a 360° but not spherical panorama like this one, is it possible to still view it "properly" by specifying that the image only covers a given vertical field of view (53 degrees in this case)? Viewing this file e.g. in panini works fine, and allows me to correctly "scroll" through it; just zenit and nadir are missing. Can we do something like this with Pano360 as well? Or is there maybe a different template that can do it? --Domob (talk) 16:00, 10 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Processing errors[edit]

With this image it seems something got messed up while processing the image (for instance, zoom in at the flag to see it). What should be done in that case? Kruusamägi (talk) 03:24, 28 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Dschwen: Might you be abble to help with this on? + With newer 360° images it seems, that the system doesn't generate the bigger and better version (example). Kruusamägi (talk) 16:08, 13 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Doesn't work[edit]

There is an error in the code of this template. As far as I understand, it's supposed to produce a link looking like this: https://panoviewer.toolforge.org/#Example.jpg, but it does produce this: https://panoviewer.toolforge.org/#{{{1}}}Example.jpg, resulting in the panoviewer aborting with an error message. Anyone who can fix this? /Dcastor (talk) 14:50, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

360°
Works for me. -- Tim Starling (talk) 04:21, 3 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Works even on old graphics[edit]

I tried with the 19th century graphic on the right side. Interesting result.

Too bad this one has two 180° parts. Enhancing999 (talk) 22:07, 6 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Annoying default categorization[edit]

This template places images into Category:360-degree panoramas by default. Most 360-degree panoramas should be diffused to Category:360-degree panoramic photographs, though, which requires overriding that default. It'd be nice if the defaults handled things better somehow, as it's creating a lot of redundant categorization. {{u|Sdkb}}talk 16:21, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Note on suitable images[edit]

Note that the panoviewer tool only works with full spherical images. There is no support for a reduced horizontal or vertical field of view. The image must have an exact 2:1 aspect ratio, because it must be 360° horizontally and 180° vertically in an equirectangular projection.

Please remove this template from images which are not exactly 2:1.

Tiled image generation was broken since 2021, but should be fixed now following https://github.com/toollabs/panoviewer/pull/3 . However I have noticed that many images with an incorrect aspect ratio are using this template. Attempting to load these images with the tool causes errors and unnecessary resource usage. -- Tim Starling (talk) 03:16, 3 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

parameter syntax for cat[edit]

hi, the current implementation requires cat to be in full fledged category wiki syntax, e.g. cat=[[Category:360° panoramas of Austria]]. Please allow the more convenient simple name of the category, cat=360° panoramas of Austria. For a smooth transition you can use #ifexist to check whether Category:{{{cat|}}} exists and then do correspondingly. IMHO the default is almost always a much too general category and should be moved to some subcategory in any way. Alas, using cat-a-lot will not work in this case. Thus it might be useful, to skip this parameter at all and leave the categorization to the embedding image. Or at least provide something like cat=nocat to switch off autocategorization. best --Herzi Pinki (talk) 08:09, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

default viewer[edit]

well it almost never makes sense to show the image outside the pano viewer. In cases where you know the pano viewer should be used as the default viewer. This is true for spherical panorama image (P4640) in WD and should also be the case in the media viewer. best --Herzi Pinki (talk) 08:12, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
