Edit Request June 29, 2021[edit]

{{Edit request}} Please change the text body of this template to the following or something to this effect:

This file is a work of a U.S. Marine Corps Marine or employee, taken or made as part of that person's official duties. As a work of the U.S. federal government, the file is in the public domain.

Reasoning:

  • Continuity with similar templates, e.g. Template:PD-USGov-Military-Navy.
  • This template does not just apply to images, which the current wording does not make clear: "the image is in the public domain" should be changed to "the file is in the public domain" or "the image or file is in the public domain".
  • "contains materials that originally came from" is an odd phrase that is not consistent with copyright law. A derivative work, for example, may contain materials that originally came from the United States Marine Corps, but still be protected by copyright. The new wording is more consistent with similar templates and the reality of the law.  Mysterymanblue  18:52, 29 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
