Rationale[edit]

user:LlywelynII, At the moment this template says that image is in PD because we said so. We need to add some reason of why images using it are in PD in UK and US. Look at any other PD license template we have they all list some legal reason why we claim that the authors of the etching did not retain their copyrights for 70 years. If we can not find a reason than this license might not be valid. --Jarekt (talk) 13:22, 31 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

a. No, we don't. We need to have a template stating why the image is in the public domain. It is a fact that the EBs up to the 12th edition are in the public domain and that is fine. Excess verbiage is simple excess verbiage.
b. Do not restore or add factually incorrect information to templates here. — LlywelynII 13:26, 31 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
But why are "EBs up to the 12th edition are in the public domain" in UK? In the US it is due to {{PD-1923}}. You might be right that they are, but a job of a license template is to provide enough information and links to copyright statues to verify our claim of PD, and at the moment this template fails to do so. --Jarekt (talk) 13:32, 31 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
