Licencing[edit]

It is questionable if you can use the CC BY license for the OCHA maps without adding the disclaimer on the map itself. Unlike the ReliefWeb site, Commons does not show the disclaimer on the map itself, but on the description page. The ReliefWeb permission page only requires a link to the source (as well as the credit “Based on OCHA/ReliefWeb”, or “Source: OCHA/ReliefWeb” for unmodified maps), but this does not apply to the disclaimer. Either remove the ReliefWeb logo, or add the disclaimer.

Also, the Template reads: “We are keen to receive your feedback and hear how you used OCHA's maps. We would be grateful if you would notify us by e-mail and share your work with us”. Appropriate in the original document, but reads quite odd here.

I will move up the disclaimer and adapt the text. --Wickey-nl (talk) 14:20, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

We're not relying on statements on their site for licensing. See Commons:Bots/Requests/UN OCHA maps bot for more about our agreement with OCHA. I'll try to get the existing files updated today or tomorrow. --Jeremyb-phone (talk) 14:41, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, now that I've read your diff more carefully, I see you've made more substantial changes. (ugh, where's wikeddiff when I need it?) Reverting for now, please discuss your changes with Pharos. --Jeremyb-phone (talk) 15:20, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, Pharos, also look at Template talk:UN map-2! Also Commons talk:Copyright tags#Template:OCHA map. --Jeremyb-phone (talk) 15:43, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
OK. At least the ticket, including its content, you refer to is missing on this page as well as in the licence info. As I see it, ReliefWeb gives two licenses on http://reliefweb.int/map_permission. One for the original maps, one for modified maps. Definitely not Creative Commons licences, but the first one fully compatible with CC BY-NC-ND and the second one with BY CC. The first one not usable on Commons, but overrided by the second one. If the ReliefWeb logo is removed and the correct attribution given, we don't need the ticket at all and can use CC BY. --Wickey-nl (talk) 16:13, 25 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
These aren't just taken from ReliefWeb website, but are part of a negotiated release, so I think it is valuable to include the OCHA logo in the image and have the disclaimer on the information page. The files were actually sent to us directly and modified (they're substantially "cleaned up" compared to the ReliefWeb versions), and we'll have this documented in the ticket.--Pharos (talk) 23:02, 27 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That is essential information that had to be shown here. I don't know how long the ticket is, but I did not get a response on my request here. --Wickey-nl (talk) 10:48, 28 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
