Template Improvment

{{Editprotected}} Hello,
I created this template and would like to improve it:
Search "Warning: avoid leading spaces." in the template documentation: it means that {{ITIS | 164519 }} won't work when {{ITIS |164519 }} will.
To solve the problem, we simply need to replace {{{1}}} by {{#if:x|{{{1}}}}} to trim leading white spaces in the first parameter.
You can see an example in {{FishBase family}}.

Why "ITIS link" ?

Is it necessary to display "ITIS link" ? To me simply have "ITIS" is both cleaner and clearer and. a link to Wikipedia could be better than a link to ITIS homepage since it is very quick to get to ITIS homepage from the since it is very quick to get to the homepage from the database link. Beside it is way easier to internationalize "ITIS" tan "ITIS link" (it applies to similar template like {{IUCN}} too).--Zolo (talk) 12:20, 7 September 2011 (UTC)

Your are correct, the "link" part is not really needed. But (there is always one ;-)) all the template of Category:Biology external link templates have the "link" part.

Please use HTTPS for ITIS links

{{Edit request}} The purpose of this edit is to provide increased privacy and security for users by having the template use HTTPS when generating links to ITIS. The ITIS site appears to support HTTPS; for example, http://www.itis.gov/servlet/SingleRpt/SingleRpt?search_topic=TSN&search_value=164519 generates an HTTP 302 redirect to https://www.itis.gov/servlet/SingleRpt/SingleRpt?search_topic=TSN&search_value=164519. Edit request: remove CBIF mirror
