Country maps[edit]

Moved from User_talk:HenkvD#Country_maps

Hi, although country maps can be interesting, it is not acceptable that the major part of all by country categories are having the major part of the initial screen obscured by such a country map. We have already troubles enough to constrain the documentation of the categories to a reasonable size without having to make room for such general information. So those maps will be collapsable or I will remove them with a bot. Best regards. --Foroa (talk) 21:28, 12 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I will try to see what I can do about making the template collapsable. I would like to point out though that this map could also be used as replacing the links in the categories. HenkvD (talk) 12:26, 13 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. The major work on Commons is to check if all country categories are present in the category, if they are properly sorted and if there are no wrong subcategories in it. I guess that nobody uses those types of categories to navigate to a specific country category. Please don't propagate this heavy template to the 5000 by country categories before there is some sort of agreement. --Foroa (talk) 19:41, 13 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Positioning of the dots[edit]

Is it just me, or are all the dots that geolocate countries just a little bit off? It doesn't make a big difference for countries like Mexico or Australia, but Denmark and Uruguay, for instance, look noticeably off. I don't remember this being a problem before the last couple weeks. I don't know, maybe it is just me (I'm running Firefox on Ubuntu Linux). Anyway, I love this template! Take care! I think you are rigth. On Template:Countryonmap I see that all dots are just all too low. Can you confirm you see the same. HenkvD (talk) 16:23, 25 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I just corrected the Template:Countryonmap after testing it on Template:Countryonmap/test. All dots are now shifted 10 px to the north. HenkvD (talk) 19:00, 29 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for all your hard work on this, HenkvD. I'm looking at the example map at Template:Countrymap, and I think that the dots are still just a little bit off: they are just a bit Northwest of where they should be (take a close look at Iceland, Madagascar, Sri Lanka, Japan, and New Zealand, and I think you'll see it too). I'm sorry to be such a pest, but I absolutely love this template and I'd love to get it looking perfect if that is possible. I love how this template allows really good visualizations of data: for instance, it can take existing category structures here at Commons and give a pretty good idea of the (quite different) geographic balances for sports like baseball, cricket, ice hockey, and rugby union. I love it! Michael Barera (talk) 20:37, 12 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The coordinates might be a bit off, but I don't see too much of a problem. For me the Template:Countryonmap and Template:Countryonmap/test shows all the dots in the corners, equator etc. Is it showing correct to you too? HenkvD (talk) 18:09, 13 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The dots on the test page appear just a tiny bit high, which is most noticeable with the dots on the equator. Maybe it is just my computer and/or browser, though. Michael Barera (talk) 20:35, 13 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Czech Republic, Soviet Union[edit]

Hi, the dot for the Czech Republic links to "Austria" and the Soviet Union is missing. Can you add it , please? Thanks!--Louis.attene (talk) 08:52, 4 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
