When to use

Hello, is this template meant to be mandatory when a date is based on the EXIF data? I ask, because usually the UploadWizard does not use it for the date parameter of {{Information}}. --Arnd (talk) 18:06, 15 November 2015 (UTC)

I would think that it should only be used when the up-loader has not provided the date the photo (etc.) was taken. Allen4names (talk) 04:33, 16 November 2015 (UTC)

According to EXIF data before 1995

Given than EXIF was invented only in 1995, would it be possible to alter this template either a) to prevent dates pre-1995 from being used or b) to automatically add Template:Invalid EXIF date to any images where the template is used with pre-1995 dates? Template without parameters

Hello everyone, is see several users adding this template without any parameters. I guess that they expect that there is a mechanism that take over the Exif data into the data parameter. Concering this, i wonder if it is not possible to really use that date and display it in the infobox (instead of having this only in the metadata section). If this is technically not possible, what do you think about establishing a bot that is adding the Exif data from metadata as a template parameter when it is missing? In this case we could even document this behavior as a possible way to use the template. At least one user (using his own scripts for uploads) already requested such a mechanism. From several others i know that they just add a year to the date to avoid to extract the complete date from Exif before uploading. Best regards, --Arnd (talk) 07:59, 5 May 2017 (UTC)

@Threecharlie: Not sure what you were trying to do there. The line that you replaced used to insert a ")" if the first parameter existed, and you changed it to insert the date instead. I reverted your change, and created a sandbox version you can experiment with. --Ahecht (TALK
