Integration with rest of Commons[edit]

Can this page's format be changed to integrate more links to Commons content instead of Wikidata? The majority of links appear to go there. Some example ideas I had:

  • Link the person's name to their Commons category, instead of having a separate column (which I did not initially see at first because it was all the way at the end). That way it is easier to dive into more images of that person
  • Link the categories to more pictures of occupations, like Category:Writers or Category:Writers from [home country]
  • Link the male/female to pictures of males or females

This is generally what Commons gallery pages are supposed to do, invite viewers to keep on interacting/following links within the project to encounter more media files and images, instead of transporting them straight back to Wikipedia or Wikidata, which is basically what this page does at the moment. I'd also argue that including a gender field is probably an unnecessary personal detail. Obviously that is a debate for another page, but I know that {{Creator}} is a template we use here that pulls a host of biographical info from Wikidata but not gender, I'd venture to say that it's because it's less relevant than occupation or DOB in that case, and perhaps one could say this column could help identify gender balances in TED speaker selection but I just thought I'd mention that part.

I know this is a whole bunch of criticism with some constructive suggestions but I think there is an opportunity here as well as a need to mention that this page is kind of problematic at the moment with respect to being within scope on Commons and not say, Wikidata. I came up with something at User:Seb26/sandbox/2 which introduces readers more directly into the mode of content they might be searching for: images of people. It is a bit rough although I'd appreciate any comments. seb26 (talk) 01:05, 7 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
