I have revised this page. There are 3 main subspecies:

  • subsp. lycoctonum: Northern and Eastern Europe (Russia)
  • subsp. vulparia (Rchb.) Nyman: widespread in Central Europe
  • subsp. neapolitanum (Ten.) Nyman: mountains of Southern Europe

Two other subspecies are endemics of Eastern Europe:

  • subsp. lasiostomum (Rchb. ex Besser) K.Warncke
  • subsp. moldavicum (Hacq.) Jalas

No pictures of these subspecies are availble yet.
