Caravaggio is a town in northern Italy which is believed to have given birth to the famous Italian painter Michelangelo Merisi. The town's Roman Catholic sanctuary, dedicated to Our Lady of Caravaggio, is also famous, and gathers hundreds of thousands of pilgrims every year.
