English: The predominant color of the synagogues is blue. The Torah commands Jews to put a blue thread in the tallit (prayer shawl). Rabbi Yosef Karo commented that blue suggests the heavens, which induces thought of Gd. The color thus helps direct thoughts and prayers to Gd. Furthermore blue paint repels insects.
