Request for tracking category[edit]

{{Editprotected}} — Preceding unsigned comment added by Novem Linguae (talk • contribs) 22:07, 5 August 2022 (UTC) Please add [[Category:Animated gifs exceeding the 12.5MP limit]] to ensure proper tracking. The message appears to support wikitext, so it should work. --Nemo 21:01, 27 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

done with Category:Animated gifs exceeding the thumbnailing limit, but I'm not sure it's worked. Rd232 (talk) 22:04, 28 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed it doesn't work, even after purging and dummy editing. I think includeonly should be removed. --Nemo 06:49, 29 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I tried that - it still doesn't work. Rd232 (talk) 14:21, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Request to link documentation and specify limit[edit]

{{Edit request}}

Current default text:

Note: Due to technical limitations, thumbnails of high resolution GIF images such as this one will not be animated.

Requested text:

Note: Due to technical limitations, thumbnails of high resolution GIF images such as this one will not be animated. The limit on Wikimedia Commons is width × height × number of frames ≤ 100 million.

Here is an example of an affected file: File:The Looping Orbits of 2020 SO.gif. Reason for request:

The current message doesn't specify the limit or say the number of frames is a factor. It's hard for users to guess what they can do. The limit is set in https://noc.wikimedia.org/conf/highlight.php?file=CommonSettings.php. It currently says:

$wgMaxAnimatedGifArea = 10e7; // 100MP

The files should be added to Category:Animated GIF files exceeding the 100 MP limit. A post above says the message couldn't do that in 2012. I don't know whether that has changed. PrimeHunter (talk) 15:34, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@PrimeHunter: ✓ Done Interface messages still can not add categories as far as I'm aware. --AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 19:44, 25 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
