HMS Temeraire was a 98-gun second rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy. She was launched in 1798, served during the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars and fought at the Battle of Trafalgar. She became known as 'The Fighting Temeraire' after a painting of that name by artist J. M. W. Turner, showing her being towed to a breaker's yard.
