rough work[edit]

I used this tool to make the map this map was based on, and used the geographic locations of the existing articles.

I am going to agree to allow my map to be superceded and deleted because this map is definitely superior in its use of colours.

The longitude and latitude I used follow.

Meanwhile there is a completely new map in progress, see de:Wikipedia:Kartenwerkstatt#Bergpässe: Afghanistan/Pakistan (aus dem Archiv geholt). I'm sure, User:Sommerkom will upload an English version, too. NNW (talk) 14:25, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
OK. I left this note on the person who place the superceded tag. Some articles still use my inferior image. As I said there I certainly have no problem with those instances being replaced with a superior image.

You are correct, http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/de/7/7a/Bergp%C3%A4sse_afghanistan_pakistan_arbeitsversion.png is a beautiful map. The only advantage my map and your current map have over Sommerkom's map is that they are PD, and his or hers is only CC. Cheers! Geo Swan (talk) 14:31, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I don't agree with Antemister that your original file is superceded by this one. The text here is German, the file shouldn't be used outside the German WP. On the other hand I would be surprised if Sommerkom's new map would lead to deletion of your original and my derivate map. There are lots of maps in Commons which show the same in different ways and it doesn't save any MBs on the servers if they would be deleted. NNW (talk) 14:41, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Actually didn't they suggest my map be superceded by yours? In general originals probably should not be deleted, to preserve a chain of attribution. And the superceded tag's button to consenting to deletion says as much.

Hi Geo Swan, I can think of no reason why the older maps should be superceded or even deleted. There aren't any factual errors in your map so I would simply leave it to the authors to browse through Category:Mountain passes of Afghanistan and choose whatever map they think is suited best. If somebody thinks my new map (when finished and translated) is superior and serves the same purpose, he can just go ahead and check the usage manually. But I don't like the idea of a bot automatically replacing correct maps in articles. --Sommerkom (talk) 04:50, 17 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
