Hey, I added the oval to this image. Where's its edit history? Seems to have been lost when the image got moved to Commons. Isn't that a breach of GFDL? --P3d0 04:02, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know about the move. But tonight I happened across this photo for the first time, and noticed that the source link was broken. So when I was searching to find a good link to fix that, I found that the loc.gov site was providing a larger version of the image. I decided to replace the smaller, and to highlight Lincoln I took a different approach from the oval you did. I did a graded color highlight so Lincoln now readily stands out in sepia tone.
One major advantage of this approach is that the original black&white can be recovered by simply desaturating the color. Nothing is destroyed. I think this approach is much more gentle on the eye, while still serving the purpose of easily pulling him out of the crowd.
