WIKIPEDIA-made Map is misleading[edit]

This Wikipedia-made map depicting time of Augustus' reign shows SLAVS, which is incorrect, because Slavs only appeared 5-600 years later after the downfall of the Roman empire and the migrations (50.173.166.172 16:04, 7 June 2014 (UTC))[reply]

Names of ethnic groups[edit]

Were the names of the different ethnic groups on the map known by the Romans, or has one got the information from other sources? --Vitzque (talk) 22:31, 24 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Extent of roman occupation of Germany[edit]

Hi, The extent of the Roman occupation of Germany, as shown in the map, is misleading. On one hand the implied title of the map is the the extent of the Roman Empire under Augustus, which implies through the year AD 14. However the maps stops short at AD 6, as implied correctly by the actual name of the file. As shown in the map, by AD 6 the Romans reached the Elbe River, deep inside Germany of today. These 8 years between AD 6 and AD 14 were very critical in the history of the Roman empire expansion in Europe. This is because in AD 9 the Romans were decisively defeated in the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest. Though the Romans attempted several raids in the following years, the eastern border between the Romans and the Germans never moved west of the Rhine River. The map with this misleading information is seen in many important sites as that of Augustus. It would be wise then to fix the map and show the Roman Empire during the full reign of Augustus, i.e. between 31 BC to 14 AD. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yyaari (talk • contribs) 14:25, 10 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The map is dated in 6 AD, before Pannonian revolt and before Battle of the Teutoburg Forest at the greatest growth on Augustan Empire ;-) VALE! --Cristiano64 (talk) 12:47, 15 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
