Description
English: Tail-piece to Deuteronomy. Deuteronomy cap 34 v 6: “And he [Joshua] buried him [Moses] in a valley in the land of Moab, over against Beth-peor: but no man knoweth of his sepulchre unto this day.” Vignette with clouds over a stone with inscription on foliage being the tomb of Moses, a glowing triangle symbol representing God in the sky above; letterpress in two columns above and on verso. The glory of God, represented as a cloud, obscures the last resting place of Moses, whose place of burial is unknown. 1792. Inscriptions: Lettered below image with production detail: "P. J. de Loutherbourg del.", "J Landseer Aq Forti Fec" and publication line: "Published Septr. 25 1792 by T Macklin London". Print made by John Landseer. Dimensions: height: 480 millimetres; width: 384 millimetres.
